Wistfully gazing at my ring finger.....

So I have this problem and I am curious to know if others have the same problem. I have a project being done at BGD; we're between the CAD/Wax stage. And really taking our time on it so it's just right. And I am really OK with that.

And yet, I find myself gazing at my lonely wedding band, which I have worn since we were married without an ER because I didn't have one to speak of, and I know that mine will be on the way soon.

So I drive, and I gaze at my wedding ring, and I think to myself "I wonder how it's going to look" and "I should have it in four or five weeks" and "I wonder how weird it will be to have it there".

And this project is only a couple of months; I don't know how some others have handled the wait for the longer projects.

So I wait, and I wistfully gaze at my band and wonder <sigh> how much longer !?!? :)) But it's the best anticipation.

Aaah, anticipation and imagining the ring on your finger (or other piece of jewelry in its appropriate place) is half the fun. Then you get the ring or other piece and hopefully love, love, love it! The anticipation stage is fun, exciting and should be cherished. Enjoy!

of course you are not alone! I waited 15 years for my diamond and felt the same as I waited for NINE MONTHS for the ring to get done.... and now my ring is in a safety box on the other side of the world and I haven't seen it for a year. I am dying for something blingy on my finger... it just aches and I know that's so sad, but I have been trying to come up with any excuse to get something on my finer - I don't even care the size lol

I hear ya sistah.

I really enjoy the planning and the anticipation of a project. I know that sounds nuts, but I do. Of course it's nothing compared to the "having and owning" aspect of it, but still, I'm in the same boat as you are Anne with a pendant project I have been working on with WF for the past two months. It's my "I survived almost dying" pendant and I told the CAD designer that I wanted it come out just right. I wanted to turn the worst thing that ever happened to me into something beautiful. So we've been tweaking. It seems though that my CAD designer is even more of a perfectionist tweaker than I am, hence the wait. But I'm sure when I do receive it, it's going to be beautiful.

I also have a loose diamond in the vault just longing to be set. The problem is I'm not absolutely sure what ring mounting I want, and should I do a temp setting and just wear it for now and get my permanent setting later? And so she continues to sit in the vault.....
Decisions, decisions!

I should receive my pendant around the same time you get your ring. We'll have a Show Me the Bling fest!

looking forward to your pendant gemgirl, nothing beats a piece with such emotional significance.

I am so glad to hear I'm not the only one!
Gemgirl, have you shared the CAD's on here? What a wonderful tribute to you and your survival!

Anne, I'm about as anxious as you are, lol! I can't wait to see that baby on your hand....the wait would drive me to distraction! Hang in there and let's plan a GTG as soon as it's on your hot little finger!

Nope - youre not alone! i waited a long time for my ering, and while i didn't mind waiting, i often wondered how it would look and when it would be finished.....

I completely understand.

But what I don't understand is why you haven't taped a conveniently sized & shaped piece of paper to your finger

Surely that was normal at times like this?

No I haven't Anne because we've been in sketch and tweak mode for two months. The shape of the pendant is something completely original, so it had to be conceived from the ground up. There was nothing to use as an inspirational image to tweak. I'm told I should have my CADs by week's end, but I'm not going to post them. I'll do a photo shoot when I have the finished piece in my hands.

I came back to ask, is yours an original design?

Steal,
I DO have the stones to size and have taped them on my finger. I even sent the photos for size and proportion to Brian, Lesley and Jamie so they could answer my questions about wrapping. I thought I was the only one that did that, but I am so glad to hear that I think you must have done that too!

Gemgirl, I can't wait to see the piece once you're done. I don't think it's a custom piece as it's really a modified BGD nightingale. Custom part is the stone size; .558/.782/1.28/.775/.563 with blue sapphire bezels on each side (one for each of my boys) and a hidden suprise pink sapphire in the shank for my daughter. The CAD process has been fun; originally I wanted it to fit flush to my wedding band but doing that lost the swoopiness of the split shank so we fixed it.

Anne, it sounds like your ring will be spectacular! That's a nice sized diamond weight and worth the wait. What does your wedding band look like? I'm trying to picture them together in my mind. How long have you been married? I expect it will take you a little bit of time to see your finger fulled loaded with glitz!

My pendant has a rather modest round (compared to your ring, LOL!) center stone of .62 pts. (G/SI1) surrounded by a double of halo of not too tiny diamonds (F/G VS ACAs). The estimated diamond weight of the pendant will be 1.32 cts. plus whatever diamond pave' they use to cover the bail I designed. Not too shabby for a "geez, I really feel like making something" project ;)) . Then I'm making a coordinating piece to this pendant next Spring. Stay tuned! I DO love the anticipation!

Ah,yes. Many of us PS'ers have succumbed to the dark side of 'make-and-do' crafting true to life replicas of our rings/diamonds in little paper shape and taping them to our fingers. You are in very good company here.

Your ring sounds fabulous. I can't wait for pictures. I'm sure BGD will do a great job for you.
