Window Shopping or How to Make Your Own Kaleidoscope

I happened to buy another inexpensive stone from Tan, a 157.5ct citrine. That's about one ounce! 37 x 34 x 19 mm, I didn't even have to magnify my pictures. If anyone wants to know what a windowed stone looks like...

Here it is next to my 1.57ct citrine. Coincidentally, that's one one-hundredth of this honker.

Since it is sooo huge and windowed I decided to play with it and make my own kaleidoscope. The stone is over table down to the lens, looking through the culet. These are not shopped in anyway.

so FUN!!

Whoa! Cool!

Very creative. :appl:

Ha, fun!! More, more :appl:

Okay, I think this is actually pretty cool.

Can you put it in some kind of wooden cylinder, so that you could really use it as a kaleidoscope-type viewer?

It would be such a unique piece! If you're not a woodworker, take it with you to an arts and crafts show, and I'll bet you could commission someone to make it for you. With a bunch of wood inlays on the cylinder, and all kinds of cool decoration! :appl:

Is there someone on Etsy that does that kind of thing?

You could start selling your own on Etsy. E-bay is full of windowed citrines... and amethysts. That will be "La vie en rose".

Coincidentally, I have an old pendant coming from my grandmother. A citrine... I think it is a good match to your Tan's citrine. The color and the window look the same! Only mine is set in gold, with tiny demantoids and blue topazes on top. Lavish waste!

I like how you think outside the box – never expected how fun it can look from that perspective.

Well if you've got a big window you need a view to go with it! Weegee had a similar device made for his camera. made his pictures look like the opening credits to Family Affair.
