We live in a rural area so I don''t get to try on as much as I''d like. That''s why I come here and ask so many questions. I''m looking at 5 stone or 7 stone rings - trying to decide between stone numbers and setting. On the setting I like the shared prong and also the trellis, kind of leaning toward the trellis. Here are my questions.

Do most trellis settings sit up higher than shared prong?

If I went with a 5 stone ring and it didn''t totally cover the top of my finger, has a little metal showing on the sides do you think that would look bad?

We have worked with blue nile in the past for my e ring which is a 1 carat tiffany style solitaire. I wear ring size 7. Will probably buy for blue nile again.

Thank you very much

I don''t think it would look bad if there was some metal showing from the side. It depends on how you like the look. For the best way to get finger coverage
and not overpower your e-ring, I''d get either a full or 3/4 eternity ring with small stones.
Check out http://signedpieces.com/facets.cfm for some great ideas.

Hi Laurie, I have read your previous posts about your hunt for a wedding band, but had not replied because I do not have exactly what you seem to be looking for. Unfortunately, I also can''t answer this question, but thought that I might post my wedding band because it may help in your wedding band quest. I have a 9 stone ring, tcw 0.74, so the stones are around 8 pts each. I wear a size 6.5 so quite close to you, and my solitaire is 0.78, slightly smaller than yours. I hope the pictures help a little.

Sorry for the poor resolution of this pic, I was trying to show the profile of my band a bit better, it''s not a shared prong, I guess it would be a u prong

- I''m not sure on the terminology, but it looks like a u, I had a better side view but I can''t seem to find it, you get the idea though.

Oh here''s the better profile shot

Bling Addict, I love your set. Thanks for sharing. I''m still going nuts and probably will be until I we finally get it picked out and purchased.

Thanks Laurie, good luck with your search

Laurie, I''d recommend the 7 stone band at least. I have a Memoire band with 7 stones at close to 11 points each, and that was pretty blingy with a 1.6 ct. diamond. If I were getting a band to go with a 1 ct. diamond, I would not want the wedding band to overpower it, so I would recommend no higher than 7-8 points. So a half carat 7 stone band would be just over 7 points each. You''d have to go with really large stones to get finger coverage with a 5 stone. And yes, I do think a trellis setting would sit higher than a shared prong band. But some shared prong bands are not set low enough and may scratch the e-ring. So you really need to be careful to check that before your return period is over.

I''ll try to attach a picture of the Memoire band so you can get an idea of the finger coverage with a 7 stone .75ctw band.

DS makes some very good points, I often think my solitaire looks better with a smaller band that I have because it ''enhances'' the solitaire, while not overpowering it (but I wear my wedding ring because now I am sentimentally attached to it). Most of the rings that I looked at had smaller stones than what I ended up getting, because they were probably a better match. However, I ended up with the one I got because I just wanted the most bling I could get! And it is nice having a slightly wider & larger stone band because I often wear it by itself. I have also found that has mine scratched the e-ring a bit, but is something I have learned to live with, as it is not structural or anything like that (but a little annoying to see when I take them off). I noticed that you said you live in a rural area so can''t try much on, but I think if you could make a day/weekend trip to try heaps of different rings on you would get the best idea of what you like best
