Why does MDX not provide certain details on their site?

This leads to the whole decision making process being so much more difficult and it feels like the customer has to hassle with constant back and forth of the details needed, for example some of the angles etc.

This has been a concern for many customers I have dealt with and is hindering the diamond-buying process.

Why don''t you just give ALL the Sarin details on your website in the first place? I can''t think of any reason to withhold crown/pavilion angles when you''re listing all the other Sarin information on your website, and if you provided them a customer wouldn''t have to bother you by asking for them. This would also speed up the decision-making process and help you avoid mistakenly assuming that someone is "not ready to buy". Perhaps that is something to consider.

Please MDX make your job easier by making customer''s job easier too. We hope to see good changes on your site that allows for better business.

I telephoned them twice about buying a replacement diamond with a budget of $15-20K...................this was more than a month ago and they never bothered to get back to me...................

I''ve personally never heard of MDX, but perhaps they are a drop shipper and don''t actually have the stones on hand in order to provide the additional information?

bugaboo, can you provide us a link for them? I''ve never heard of them either.

Here's the MDX that I know of:
http://www.diamondexchange.com.au/

Of course there surely are others with the same acronym so it's important to be sure we're talking about the right outfit if the issues are about that particular dealer.

I won’t speak for MDX but I can address the general problem. Allow me to restate the question:

What’s wrong with providing consumers with as much raw data as possible?

The labs have quite a bit of information at their disposal that does not appear on the report given to their clients. This can include notes from the graders, additional info that comes from the Sarin scan, results from other tests, photographs and possibly other info. Wouldn’t it make the shopping process easier to allow customers, or at least dealers, access to this data?

In a word, No.

On the contrary, it would make the shopping process more difficult, at least for the vast majority of people. The vast majority of consumers have no idea what to do with this information and what happens is that the ‘free’ education that they expect from the dealers would go up exponentially in order to accommodate it. Given the opportunity to analyze each facet angle and azimuth, there are plenty of clients who will want to do just that. Not surprisingly, dealers don’t want to get into that. Bear in mind that the customer for lab services is almost always a dealer and the purpose of the dealers in soliciting these services is to sell things. This includes things that aren’t ‘perfect’ in every regard and this includes not wishing to spend hours and hours turning every client into a gemologist only to see them evaporate and shop elsewhere after the training session has happened.

Yes that may be true but at least state angles and basic information to help them get their own HCA scores if they wanted to and that would save the time of going back and forth. Even if they just had just the one report/certificate to prove its identity and its measurements. Being a consumer myself I know that it would make it a lot more easier for both parties and if they are really interested then they can go in and further discuss the issue. I Believe that there are some sites with the certificates already and people like to see these things online for assurance purposes so they may not even like to venture to a site that omits this and that, I think they need to become more and be more so that they can be more recognised as a trusted site with all the potential of selling more as people don''t just rush in and purchase these stones without the research, so why not save them some time? Another thing too I think that some customers like the honesty in a site and giving some basic information is great but be consistent, like some diamonds display the angles while others do not? The inconsistency is what people notice, the ease of the search is another thing too. Picture your perfect shopping experience........now most sites now are trying to improve their services to help achieve that, its about time they did too.

Yes, MDX is Melbourne Diamond Exchange in Australia. A friend used them a couple of years ago, said they were wonderful. So I called them asking for availability of stones in my price range. They said they will take a look at the stock (most overseas I think and would have to be imported), and call me back............I''m still waiting...................hence, moved on from them, and have found a great jeweller in Sydney who is sourcing diamonds for me as we speak. I spent a couple of hours with her educating me in colour, clarity, cut etc and showed me samples of each - what a very wonderful and fact filling education I experienced - I was amazed at what I learnt visually be able to compare different diamonds - well worth the 600km each way I travelled!

To be honest - online shipping in Australia, I dont think has develped yet like the US. The best Australian site I have found is Diamond Imports in Sydney, who has certificates, images etc to view, but I havent heard of anyone purchasing from them.

That is the way of the future. Demand is growing for more information especially on things that take some people months of saving and planning for......they are not willy nilly going to buy whatever they see first after all that time planning, designing a setting etc....
