Why does it seem many of Whiteflash''s ACA have Negligible Fluorescence?

Hi,
I''ve been looking at diamonds for some time now. I''ve recently come across Whiteflash''s ACA collection, and while quite impressed, I see that many (all?) of these diamonds have negligible fluorescence.

Can anyone elaborate this for me? I''m seriously considering buying one, but I wonder about this one detail. Is it true that in sunlight the diamond may appear slightly "dull" ?

Thanks.

Negligible fluorescence will have no effect on the performance or the price of the stone. Medium might have a little, or strong, but negligible is sort of like a big word for none. There may be a tiny amount, but its effect and visibility is negligible. If it were a little more visible it might be called weak.

If you like the stone otherwise, then buy it in comfort.

AGS stopped using the word 'none' and replaced it with 'negligible'.

Speaking of big words, Maarten de Witte from Hearts on Fire gave a great presentation in Moscow:

Brilliance in his community means very very smart.
Dispersion is how diseases are transmitted.

I agree, ''negligible'' is used to grade diamonds having nil to slight fluorescence, which won't have in any way an effect on the stone. It's the substitute for ''inert'', which means none, but also included stones that had very slight fluorescence, so they were not truly 'inert'. And, with the quality control at whiteflash, I am sure that any diamond displaying any fluorescence is carefully observed and rejected, should the phenomena have a negative influence on the appearance.

Only a relatively small percentage of all diamonds exhibit fluorescence.

Actually PQ, I think 35% of diamonds exhibit some sort of fluor.

I remembered reading something like 10-15%.

I went to the Tutorial and it said around 20%.

Hi Garry,
Why did AGS replace "none" with "negligable" for fluorescence? It was so much easier before, now when I see this I'm not sure the diamond has no fluorescence or a slight amount?

(I tend to be a perfectionist, and true I probably won't see any different but we are also shopping for "the piece of paper")

Thanks.

Yes 35% is the correct number (sorry).

Hi Garry,
At what point on the color scale would fluorescence come into play?

I'm looking for (minimally) .7 VS2, G, so there should be no problems with these, correct? (keep in mind when I do my searches I do come across some in the D-E range, would these be affected adversely by negligable fluorescence?

PS: are you currently selling diamonds? I haven't bought one yet

I keep my selling activity out of my Pricescope relationships - unless you live in Oz

The GIA study a few years ago suggested there was a positive not a negative value for Fluoro. Many other experts here also think that way.
Stop being anal, you are sufffering serious info-over load.

What ever you buy send to an appraiser and if the fluoro is one of the 0.5% of all stones where it is a problem they will tell you

Skyline,

As the more then happy owner of a 2.01ct G color Whiteflash stone with negligable flourescene I can honestly say, you won't see a thing in the sunlight. My stone is so clear, so icy white, so unbelievably gorgeous I have literally seen peoples jaws drop when I am outside at the park or picking up my kids from school. I would not hesitate at all buying a Whiteflash ACA with negligable flourescence. Their service and quality are exceptional. Happy hunting!
