Sorry, double post.

I think the depth is 37.2 % so check the stone for windowing/leakage.

When a stone is too shallow light goes right through it (like a window) instead of bouncing around to produce the desired effect.

There are some cut designs where this is part of the look, like the rose cut.
Windowing in cushion cut is undesirable and was the owner's way of getting the most heavy stone possible from that piece of rough.

I'd pass on it.

What does windowing and leakage look like?

You can see right through the stone down to your finger or the setting.
This is terrible light performance.

Diamond material, when well cut, is capable fantastic light performance, sparkle, brightness, fire, scintillation, contrast etc.
This will be a dead-looking diamond.
Big-looking from the top, but dead-looking.

What other cuts would a deep cut be preferred in besides the rose cut? thanks for your very helpful feedback.

No easy answer.
There are depth and table charts you could consult but they are a coarse tool.
For the best light performance each diamond of each shape should be individually evaluated with an Idealscope or ASET scope to help determine leakage and light performance.

For rounds start with the HCA, reject rounds that score over 2.0 and get Idealscope pics on those under 2.0.

37.2 depth and what looks like a very thick girdle.
if it isn't totally leaking it will be a fisheye.

There are few hard and fast rules about fancy cuts, but I am going to go out on a ledge and say 37% depth is never a good thing in a diamond ;)) Sure it is big, but so is a pancake. I suspect this one might have about as much sparkle and flash as a lovely fluffy pancake.
