Why does everything happen at the same time?

So far today- central heating broken down, engineer here for 2 hours, not going to be a quick or easy fix; my car went for a service, needed new battery plus various bits and pieces in order to pass as roadworthy, and now DH‘s car key fob battery has gone PLUS the same on the spare! Aaargh!

I was feeling quite flush earlier in the week, payday happened and we‘ve not spent nearly as much as normal due to no holidays and limited activities in lockdown. That didn’t last long!

But yeah this seems to be the way it goes. I could share many stories. In fact let me share a few if I may if it make you feel at all better.

Let's look at 2014 if you will. In January 2014 I got shingles.
In March I got a weird burning all over my body that the doctors said had zero to do with shingles. I spent months undergoing invasive testing just to get nowhere. The tests themselves were a nightmare. I finally started feeling all better when BOOM. I had a cycling accident and broke my tibia and fibula. Surgery followed and 8 months of rehab. When I finally started feeling better BOOM I got perioral dermatitis that lasted over a year. So yeah 2014 was a year from HELL.

Let's look at another year shall we? FF to 2019. It was going well. When suddenly out of the blue our beloved Francesca got a terminal diagnosis and from diagnosis to death was less than 2 weeks.
Then we adopted a rescue with an eye ulcer thinking we would do a good deed in Francesca's name. Well, he gave everyone ringworm which was a diagnosis that kept on giving and giving and giving. If you want to get an idea of the hell that was just read my ringworm thread.

And it doesn't end there. Greg had to have a few kidney stone surgeries that year plus TKR in january 2020. Finally we thought OK now calmness will ensue. Nope. Covid happened. And it got worse from there. More kidney stone surgeries during Covid (fun never ends) and then a cancer diagnosis plus other diagnoses and you can see we had no respite. Greg had five surgeries during the Covid pandemic and we may not be done with surgeries yet.

Oh and yes appliances and the like did break down during this time but I can barely remember that given all else we had and continue to go through.

And we are still in the thick of it. But I won't bore you with more details LOL I went on quite enough.

All this to say everyone has something and some of us have multiple somethings. If it can be fixed with money it's not a problem. It's the things that cannot be fixed with money that is the real tsuris.

We all have something and I know there are people who have it way worse than we do. So for all that we are going through I am still super grateful for all the good we have and I always say if it can be fixed with money and time it just isn't a real problem. From my perspective. Yes it is an inconvenience for sure. But not something that will alter the course of our lives. Annoyances are just that. Annoying. But we all get them and we all have them and often we have them in multiples at the same time. I feel for you I do. But it always helps (me at least) to put it in perspective.

At least it wasn't health related and can be fixed with money.

One thing I really love about PS is the we can share these stories and have others chime in to help make us feel better!

I just want to add your feelings are your feelings and you deserve to feel the way you do. I do not want to make light of them at all. Just wanted to make you feel a little better saying it will be OK and you will get these issues fixed. I hope my post doesn't seem condescending or obnoxious. I just wanted to give you some comfort and a different perspective. But 100% you should allow yourself to feel how you feel. But remember, this too shall pass. ((((Hugs))))).

Sometimes when I have problems, I enjoy hearing about other people's problems so a) its a good distraction and b) it helps help keep me grounded.

Just a little bit about our situation. We recently sold our house, it was on the market for less than a week and sold. So we've been trying to find another house to buy but there's hardly anything around. Luckily for us there was a house where the contract fell through because the buyer couldn't get finance (it had been 4 weeks). The vendor gave us a chance to buy on the condition that we could get our loans within 3 days, which ended up being 1 day by the time they gave us all the paperwork.

As everything was so rushed we were supposed to come up with the 10% deposit in that day, by the time I had realised it was already 5pm Friday. We ended up about 30k short and I was so worried about how we were going to come up with that amount. Thank goodness for bank of dad to the rescue. So despite the stressful experiences I'm really grateful to my dad who is always there for us - especially financially. But he's always been supportive and doesn't make us feel bad or stupid.

So all in all, it's made me realise that family and your health is the most important. But secondly money is stressful but hopefully it's still affordable. If it was hundreds of thousands then

Hugs @Snowdrop13 My dad used to call it Sod's Law & my goodness, he was right. It never rains, it just pours sometimes.

Things breaking REALLY pee me off. Mr T always reminds me they are 'just things' but I still get rage & boiling blood. Our boiler had been on the blink for years, with replacement diaphragms & mother boards - our plumber just kept it alive somehow. But it slowly went from fully functioning, to random hot water if the heating was off, to no hot water without the heating being on, to random running cold on you in the shower despite the heating being on (no fun when it's 30c outside & you're getting everyone through the showers with all radiators blaring) to zip. No hot water or heating at all. We eventually had it replaced, but not before the dishwasher packed up the same week, which also the day the return fuel pipe burst on my Jeep mid-drive, causing me to cruise to a full stop at the side of a remote country lane. In 30c heat. I had just filled it. I stood & stared at £90 of diesel on the floor with zero shade, whilst waiting for the fire brigade to come along & throw sand on it to make it safe (I had to wait away from the vehicle as apparently it could have ignited) & the AA to come & low load it to the garage. Thankfully a kindly passing police lady drove me down to a pub so I could have a pee in privacy instead of behind a hedge & gave me a dollop of sun cream for my very red face.

I laugh now, but at the time I thought I would have a stroke with the stress. There are no buses out to my tiny village & being without a car isn't an option. I had to phone my mother to get her to collect the girls from school that day, as I was still sat in the burning sun 3 hours later, still waiting for Mr AA who was clearly very busy.

When I eventually got home, I slathered my hurting face in aloe vera gel, ordered a new dishwasher & booked in boiler replacement

@Snowdrop13 my Mum said it always comes in three's so hopefully your bad luck is over. In 2016 (over a period of a fortnight) out dishwasher, washing machine and vacuum cleaner went to spare part heaven lol. This week our pool pump has broken and cost a small fortune to replace, our kettle had died, so I'm waiting for the third....
Hopefully it'll not be an expensive replacement

As @missy so wisely said, don't worry or stress out if the problem can be fixed. I've learned as long as no one is hurt, it's not health related or related to your loved ones, everything will be OK, it can be fixed, just an inconvenience! I know it's all relative and easier said than done, but just focus on gratitude!

As if things wern't bad enough that kind of vertigo is the worst
i had a week in bed and it took about 3 weeks to come right before i could trust myself to leave the house

I feel sick just thinking of your symptoms !
After the 3rd day of not holding even water down i know i needed food and fluids
i lay there thinking maybe i should go to A&E but the thought of just being in the car for the 5 min to get to the hospital and then the thought of having to sit in the waiting room to be seen was too much for me
i got up and had two pieces of bread and butter that took 2 hours to eat
It was bad for Tibby and the stray kittens we had over the spring
They only had breakfast for 3 days because i just couldn't manage dinner
Them Gary's eye site was getting worse and worse and he couldn't see
id lie there planning what i could find in the freezer for an easy dinner for him, he seemed completly inescapable of managing his blood sugar
i just wanted someone to come and look after me

How have you found bathing/showering ?
I didn't trust my self to stand up for a shower but i felt sea sick wallowing in the bath

I found even getting up to go for a piddle was a major effort
At one stage after id managed to stagger drunkenly to the bathroom i had to choose between throwing up or weeing - (i went with what was easier to clean up ) - disgusting but when you have 6 horizons and they are all moving around ...desperate measures
I was covered in bruises from crashing into the hall walls

im really sorry i can't pop over to your house with a nice dinner for you or something

i beleave there are physiotherapists who specialise in treating it - Gary's daughter gets vertigo on a regular basis (as if chemo isnt enough) and she just goes to her regular physio and she gets her to do a few exercises and she's on an even keel again but i honestly think with the pandemic raging just look on u tube for something

i admit i was too scared to because i just was over throwing up but i beleave it works

You are all so lovely! I’m so very impressed by the measured way you’ve approached the varied situations you’ve had happen to you. I’m so glad to hear it’s not just me who gets stressed out by the catastrophes, however minor.

@missy gosh, you have been in the wars. I remember when you broke your ankle, such a nightmare. I think that’s when the NIRDI thread was born? Plus all your poor animals. And I really, really hope Greg is on the mend and doesn’t need more surgery. Nothing worse in normal times, let alone during a pandemic. Totally agree that if money can fix things it’s all good.

The Jeep was sadly an expensive fix (£2.5k against a value of £12k for the car) so was hurriedly traded in to the only dealer who would have it in that condition. I cried when they loaded it onto their lorry to take it away. And the only suitable car that they had with all-wheel drive (I've talked before about the remoteness of my little village & treacherous, steep lanes that are often covered in thick wet mud or ice) was a Nissan Qashqai in a weird metallic cafe latte colour. I had no choice & I hated it, which makes me sound very shallow & ungrateful. It was a nice drive though & only 18 months old, but it just wasn't me. Mr T replaced it with my dream car a couple of years ago, totally out of the blue, in the same metallic deep red colour as my Jeep was, in homage.

The subliminal dream car messages got through, so maybe the subliminal dream Tiffany ring messages with get through one day too

To add to the misery of this thread, I've just touched up some white paint, you know the kind - 50 million different types of white that isn't white, and guess what, I used the wrong type of white-that-isnt-white. Yes to the headache and i was really sound and light sensitive and my bedroom is really light and the neighbours are really noisy
