Do they get some kind of weird satisfaction by posting fake obnoxious things?

Do they not have a life?

Or do they get some kind of monetary gain that I don't know about?

Seems like a waste of time. Ours and their's.

So why do they do it?

Attention seeking behavior? Do you mean the "real people" who post about the most incredible dramatic situations or the scams with links to websites? Those I think could be computer generated... But not sure.

Some people just enjoy drama- living it, creating it, thinking about it. I prefer a calm life, sans drama :))

Im thinking of the real people. The ones that come and make up some crazy story. Just to get attention on a forum? Seems sad.... I thought maybe there might be more to it.

Maybe it's a crazy way o test out a social media theory! Post a tragedy and see how the thread evolves! Maybe it's part of a university course we know nothing about

But mainly I just think the attention fills a void for some people.

One thing I've noticed about trolling is that some people like to go against the flow of how the majority of people react to something. For instance, when there was an outpouring of empathy online for the Mccanns, the English couple who had had their child kidnapped in Portugal, there were trolls who countered this with vitreol about how they were bad parents and it wasn't much of a tragedy anyway. To me trolls are people who like to think of themselves as alternate thinkers who aren't afraid of going against the flow of what they think the majority thinks. The trouble is they end up doing simply the reverse of the thing they perceive to not like such, as sychophancy in the comments people make about people they don't know. They generally become repetitive and are simply nasty for it's own sake. Seldom do trolls come across as having independent alternative views that are well thought out and argued.

They're also people who can't leave others to simply get on with what interests them. They invade and ridicule on topics that clearly they have no interest in. Perhaps they lack focus in their own lives.

the internet forums would be boring w/o trolls...

I think the ones who try to post here get paid.

No. I meant the posts that say things like: "I like this. www.buymproducts.com""""

Posters that are paid to posts with links or posts for vendors we consider them to be either SPAMMER or SHILL.

Our general definition for a SPAMMER is one who posts for the sake of getting links out all over.

A more specific one is one who posts SPAM., which is defined here http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_spam..

Our general definition for a SHILL is one who benefits somehow ( other the good nature of feeling good :) from posting in favor of a vendor.

The specific definition of a SHILL is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shill

Our definition is the troll like to create problems, drama , everything else other then the other.

Here is the defined version of it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

Just though i would post for clarification.

As to why they do it, I am not sure myself.

Maisie please use the "report concern" and let us know who this vendor is. We take this very seriously.

If anyone else has been offered anything like this please let us know via the "report concern" button.

Thank you,

Andrey, thank you for the clarification.
