I saw a beautiful stone today and it was apperently a brown diamond and it was absolutly lovely. The lady said she got it in Brazil.

Why aren''t they more popular? I get that if you want a diamond you want it as white as possible but why aren''t they sold more comonly as colored stones. They sparkle so much more than any topaz ever could.

Colored diamonds aren''t considered inferior. They have a great value, as they can be quite rare. Several people on Pricescope have colored diamonds. Do a search and check out those beauties.

"Bad diamonds?" I don''t understand this. Colored diamonds are certainly not considered bad in any way.

Sounds like you saw a lovely cognac colored diamond.

Here is an example of one:

What you are describing is a Congac diamond and they are much more common than what are traditionally considered Fancy Color Diamonds.
I''ve seen them referred to many tijmes as "Chocolate Diamonds" and they are reasonably popular.

There are a few companies like H Stern that have built empires on them.

Personally I like them, sometimes....

I saw the most incredible chocolate brown coloured cognac diamond in De Beers just before Christmas.

The last time I was in New Bond Street a couple of weeks ago, I took FI in to see it. I couldn't find it in the case, so I asked the manager.

He said it was the most beautiful cognac diamond they had ever sold with perfect colour saturation - they doubted they would have another that fine for some considerable time. It was extremely expensive.

I was very sad not to have been able to show it to FI, the first time I had been with my brother who was so blown away by it he wanted to know if I could find one for his FI's engagement ring.

Good cognac and champagne diamonds are incredibly beautiful, and certainly not bad or inferior (and neither is the price tag!). Finding a great one is pretty hard.

I'd take one over a white diamond any day - oh except a great OEC!

My favorite quote from a great movie, "Beautiful Girls"

Kev: It''s a trend in diamonds. Champagne. It''s a nice stone.
Willie Conway: Yeah, no, I heard about this. It''s a new trend in the diamond trade, they''re trying to create a new market.
Tommy: Oh, right, right. yeah. They were callin'' ''em "piss", but they weren''t moving any units. What''s with you, man?
Paul Kirkwood: What?
Tommy: Well, how much you pay for this brown rock?
Paul Kirkwood: What difference does it make?
Tommy: Diamonds are supposed to be colorless! You go out and buy a colored diamond for a girl you''re not even seeing, man, you must be eating retard sandwiches again.
