Hello PSers,

I've always wondered why most online vendors only carry AGS, while others only carry GIA. Why??

In the overall, there are many more GIA certed diamonds than AGS certed ones. However, when people shop on-line they have a limited ability to see the diamond physically compared to when you go to a B&M retailer and can handle the diamond in person. To overcome this limitation, the AGS grading of cut quality is superior to the GIA version of cut grading. When a consumer want s very top choice for cut, an AGS stone rated AGS000 can reasonably be purchased with a high degree of confidence that the stone will do everything correctly in terms of light performance and overall beauty. While GIA XXX stones all looks excellent to nearly excellent, there are cases where they do not look enough alike to some of us that they ought not belong in the same cut grade of XXX. The GIA grading is quite a few steps broader that AGS cut grading.

High quality on-line vendors are major users of AGS000 papers and therefore you seen an inordinately high number to select from on-line. There is very little to be found wrong with any GIAXXX diamond, but cautious and educated consumers seem to favor taking as few chances with failure as they can when it comes to the all important question of cut quality.

All the on-line visual tools to see the actual diamonds are a huge step in the right direction to let consumers see every aspect of a stone, but one must keep in mind the limited definition of most computer screens. You can see far more with a 10x loupe in person, than you can with magnification shown at less than 100dpi on a monitor. A high def monitor combined with high def transmission of the images and videos will be the direction of the future of on-line marketing.
