Hello,

I'm currently looking for a beautiful diamond. After shopping around I think I can say that I'm a bit color sensative and looking for a diamond in the D-F range, VS quality (eye clean). What would be the expected price for a 1.3-1.45 carat diamond?

Which ps vendor has the most competitive price from your opinion?

You are looking at anywhere from $10K (1.30 F VS2) to $20K (1.4 D VS1) to meet your specifications for either a GIA or AGL diamond.

At this time, there is not a wide disparity between Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, and James Allen. But the bottom line is, you have to buy from the vendor who has the diamond you want since it doesn't usually happen that they all have an equivalent stone!

(Chrono, that isn't an excellent cut F VS2 for $10k is it????)

No vendor is cheapest on every deal. It pays to shop. If you're not picky about cutting (which is blasphemy around here), you can occasionally find bargains with the folks who have storefronts that buy estates. If you're buying off of the virtual lists, the folks who offer the least service in terms of personal inspections, photography, testing, warranties, payment options, etc. are often offering the lowest prices. As with the above, whether or not this is the best deal depends on what you want.

I am not seeing much at all in those specs with pictures, etc. Vendors tend to carry more in the G-J range because those sell better since you can get a larger size for the money. Brian Gavin has two 1.3x F VS stones but they are over $18k.

Argh! That was a typo when I was editing it a million times. The correct figure should be $13K plus, not $10K for a 1.3 F VS2.

Ok!!! I was wondering because I wasn't seeing anything like that on James Allen!

Honestly, I think you can get what you want for a price you want to pay from ID Jewelry. They're really really really good at finding stones like the ones given in examples for a good price. I'd call them if you're on a budget.

Yep, ID Jewelry is probably the cheapest IMO.

It all depends on the cut quality she wants. Cheapest does not always yield the best stones. ;))

I didn't mean necessarily the cheapest but definitely more affordable. . But that IDJ can find something just as beautiful as what all the other vendors that charge an arm and a leg for less. They have excellent GIA cut stones and can negotiate the price.

I would agree with the posts about ID being great to work with in terms of budget. I went to three other PS vendors who were not able to provide me with the type of quality diamonds Yekutiel was able to find for me at the same price point. I even had one PS vendor tell me straight up that she thought I was getting a great deal and that she couldn't beat it. One thing that I have noticed about IDJ is that they really do rely on word of mouth for their online business, and so I think that Yekutiel goes out of his way to make sure that PS members are well taken care of. Of course, I don't think that you could go wrong with any of the above vendors. My dealings with WF, and James Allen were very positive.

One piece of advice I'd like to give you is that when you were comparing color in person to decide how color sensitive you are, if you weren't looking at GIA/AGS Excellent/Ideal cut stones, I'd throw your results out the window. I thought I was color sensitive when looking at Good/Very Good cut GIA and EGL stones, and then I saw an AGS I color Ideal cut stone in person and realized I was more than happy to drop to the H-I color range to get an Ideal cut stone and upgrade in size as much as possible.

This is my first response to any post. I would have to agree that working with any of the above vendors/ companies would great. I am big on getting as much information before making my final decision/choice(s). Kudos +1 :wavey:

Welcome Senor :wavey:

Kathness just a question you say that you are color sensitive...Have you had an opportunity to view G or H CERTIFIED by GIA Stones ....you can tell color on the James Allen web site by viewing alot of stones. However seeing colored stones in person is alot different.

when I received my GIA certified emerald cut stone it blew me away that it was H color. The only way i believed it was to put it next to a GIA certified D emerald.

So before you opt to spend the $14,-$15,000 for the D color take a look at real GIA certified stones in the F G H range. Just a suggestion

I found B2C Jewels to have the best prices on the exact same stones advertised across Vendors.

Yes, I was wondering about that... when I search for diamonds using the PS tool, B2C usually has the cheapest prices. Can the other suppliers still go lower than the quoted price in the PS search tool? Thanks! :)

I haven't done retail diamond shopping in the past while. However, my friends who have been buying from our PS vendors told me they found ERD to be the most competitive priced. I don't think any of them went to IDJ though.

IDJ is amazing. They made my wedding band for me for such a great price and I did a lot of shopping around. I would contact them and see if they can find something for you.

Basically, B2C Jewels sell the diamonds on very low profit margins, which other online stores unable to match, you could call the customer
service and check if they could discount more, if they could give reduce the price than what they are advertising it would be bonus for you :)

Thank you so much for your responses! As always you all providing the most informative advice!

These diamonds are lovely! I've emailed JamesAllen regarding these diamonds.

I will defintiely reach out to ID Jewellery and ERD and see what they currently have in stock.

I got the following diamond from Brian Gavin - emailed by Jamie.

I've viewed a couple of G , H color diamonds at de beers just to compare the color quality and also local jewels with GIA certified diamonds. I think I still definitely prefer diamonds in the D-F range.

Once again, thank you for all your responses!

You really have a wide range of options with that budget.

1. One of the 2 ~1.23 F VS2 stones that BGD has right now at ~6.9 mm (the 1.231 stone they have has a 55% table compared to 57.8% in the 1.237 and faces up a tiny bit bigger as well)
2. 1.375 H VS1 from BGD (already reserved) at ~7.1 mm: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.375-h-vs1-round-diamond-ags-104063529004
3. 1.508 I VS2 Signature Blue from BGD (already reserved) at ~7.35 mm: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.508-i-vs2-round-diamond-ags-bl-104063998019
4. 1.72 I SI1 from GOG at ~7.65 mm: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10320/

As you can see, even staying within Super Ideal cuts only, you still have a very wide range of size you can get depending on what you're willing to do on color.

B2Cjewels have one of the best prices around here. However, the level of service in terms of images and scopes would be limited.

The numbers look promising. I assume that he is going to take an IS image for you?

Yes, asking for pictures and a Idealscope picture you can post here would be more helpful

hiya - I've just requested for pictures, as at the moment the diamond is not in house :)

He is just looking at a virtual inventory and all vendors can do that. So there is absolutely no telling if the stone is a great one unless he calls it in and gets an idealscope image. And the truth is, if B2C is cheaper, they can do the exact same thing.
