Hi all! :wavey:

I normally hang out over in RockyTalk, but decided it was time to venture over here and spend some time. I have a collection of tanzanites that I'm going to have mounted and I'm still deciding how I want to wear some of them.

The first pic shows several that vary is size from just over a carat to over 4 carats on the long pear. Unfortunately I can't get the color even close the the purples that come off the stones, they just look blue in the pics. Most of them are very saturated purple-blue, but the fat pear is definitely cut on the purple axis. The 2 diamonds in the box are .65 ct and .4something.

The 6 stones in the middle pic range from about 3 1/4 carat to about 5.2 on the cushion shaped. Once again they show more purple than I can get in the picture. They're all very clean, beautiful stones.

The bottom pic is my prize. It's over 17 carats of deeply saturated purple-blue, loupe-clean beauty. For size refererence my ring finger is size 8.5 and the diamonds I'm wearing are .84 ct and 1.10.

I like good quality tanzanites. Very pretty collection! I bet you love gazing at them!

I LOOOOVE Tanzanites & yours are gorgeous! How long did it take you to collect these beauties? Thanks for sharing!

Whoa, those are gorgeous!!! So glad you came over to show us pics! :wavey:

I really love your big tanzanite. What is beautiful, is beautiful. I never appreciated tanzanites till I saw one cut by Lisa Elser, it was a heirloom piece.
Your stone has incredible richness to it.

oh Andelain.. those are pretty. I haven't given tanzanites much thought until I started lurking this section.. oh PS what have you done to me!

I only have one tanzanite, but it's a treasure to me because the color is so lovely and it's untreated and unheated to boot! It's precision cut and the pendant is just dazzling. Sadly I don't wear it often, but I don't have it in me to sell it!

Tanzanite is my favorite stone (see my handle!) I have a round 2.05 carat that is now in a pendant and a 3.96 carat that is now in my ring which is posted on this forum (somewhere). Yours are big and beautiful. Enjoy them!!!!

Beautiful tanzanites!

That's a LOT of tanzanites of various shapes and sizes. Thanks for sharing your collection. I love tanzanites too but am too afraid to set and wear any.

I love tanzanites and wear them all the time in all types of jewelry. It doesn't really matter to me that they're soft...that said, I've never spent a great deal on one, and I'd probably put it into a pendant or earrings if I did. Anyway, yours are really nice, way nicer than any of mine!

Very pretty and worth setting! Just don't wear them over in the sandbox. They'll come home cabochons. :errrr:

Gorgeous stones, Andelain. I'm having a tanzanite cabochon being set right now. I can't wait to see what you do with all those pretty stones! :))

MakingtheGrade your tanzanite if TDF!!

   Kelpie, that's funny! True, but funny. Ne wearing them here in Iraq, duly noted.

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone. :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

I have some plans in my head about getting them set, for example Mr. 17ct will be in a pendant, most likely with the 2 matched ovals shown in the tray of 6. I'll take a better pic of the 2 together later. The 2 matched pears are very likely to be mounted into earring drops to be worn with my ACA studs. The rounded pear in the tray with the diamonds is very purple, and it's probably my favorite colored one of all. I'm pretty sure that's going to be a pendant for my mother because she really loves purple. I'm going to make a ring with a diamond halo, but I still haven't decided betweem the long pear in the tray with the diamonds, or the cushion or the large oval from the other tray. Decisions..............

Here's a few pics of a couple of the stones. The first one is a 5.2 carat rounded cushion shape that's very nice. What looks like inclusions are really just dirt, and I still can't get my pics to show the true color. It has more purple than you see. For size comparison that's my .84 ct diamond again. ;))

The next pic is the matched pair of pears, each around 3.5 ct. I didn't even buy them at the same time, just got lucky when a vendor happened to get a match to one I'd bought a couple weeks before.

The bottom one is one of the pears from the matched set. This picture shows a himt of the purple in the stone, but still not enough.

That's one of my favorites too. I had been thinking all along I'd set the biggest cushion in a halo, but now I'm rethinking that. The finalists to end up haloed are the long pear and the largest oval, shown in the top pic. Or the smaller cushion on the left in the bottom pic. I love the shape of the oval and pear, but the cushion has the coolest cut. Ahhhhhhhh, decisions, decisions..... :wink2:

Beautiful stones! You asked who here like Tanzanites and I must say I have a love/hate relationship with them... I love the way they look, but hate the way they are so easily damaged. I had a gorgeous one set in a custom ring (many years ago) and it was stolen. ;(

It was fancy kite cut and a gorgeous deep purple/blue color. I've yet to find one that color (in my budget) but maybe someday. I have a few now that are pretty enough, but none of them have the same WOW factor as the one that was stolen.. :(sad

I hate thieves! :angryfire: :angryfire: That really sucks that such a nice ring got stolen. I hope you have another that you love someday.

I managed to get a couple more pics that at least show a hint of the purple visible in these stones.

One is a 5.2 ct modified cushion that's actually darker then the picture, a very saturated purple-blue.

The other is a 3 1/2 ct pear that is one of a really well matched pair. Can you say earrings? :naughty:

My wife loves the color of those last two stones you posted.
But I don't love the prices they must fetch and how I must recut a larger stone to get the cut design and shape she wants.

Am I the only one who doesn't like Tanzanites? :errrr:

That's OK, more for those who do!

Love those new pictures...

No. Me too. I refuse to be tempted by them because they are too soft for a clumsy gal like me.

here is my tanzanite-9.5ct trillian-not a bad stone & seems to be plenty of the stuff out there-prices seem to be falling a little but deals are to be had-one should be careful handleing but still nice to display-steve....

I've never purchased a tanzanite for a ring, but I couldn't resist this string of unheated tanzanite rondelles I purchased a while back from Dana at Mastercutgems. I restrung them myself into a necklace. These will probably remain as my only tanzanites. I just can't wrap my head around the fact they are really expensive for such a fragile stone. I have the same problem with opal. :twirl:

Hopefully, since this thread was directed at people who do like tanzanites.

m76steve, that tanzanite pendant is TDF!!!! :cheeky:  :cheeky:

I'm still playing around with pendant designs for the 17 ct one. :naughty:

Gorgeous stones. I love tanzanites.

I have a mountain of Tanzanites but ............... am not keen on them! I used to love them and do occasionally wear them on a "blue" day but I don't know, they've just lost their appeal for me! I've got a top quality 18ct Emerald cut that I'm seriously debating selling as it's just rolling around in my safe being totally unloved! Maybe I'll fall back in love ..............
