I''m getting ready to order earrings...believe I want three prong martini settings for my earrings (80 pts each ear)...I did a search and seems many people prefer the pushback -- which I do want -- screwback are too much trouble and I have sensitive ears. But I''m not really clear on the "heavy pushback" and "handmade" terms. I asked Whiteflash what was meant by handmade and she sent me a photo. If I just ask for three-prong martinis with a big back will that do the trick for security and also for keeping the diamond nice and stable on my ear? I notice when I''ve tried on earrings that when you put a big back on the earrings sit much nicer on your ear.

The backs they normally send are relatively large, and yes, they help the earrings to not droop. But you are talking about something else, too. There is the standard martini setting, and there has been a handmade martini setting that was more delicate and more expensive. I didn''t see the handmade one on the site the last time I looked. This is the part of the earring that the stone is set in and has nothing to do with the backs. Most of the people here have the handmade ones, so I am not sure about the standard ones.

Thank you. When I inquired about the handmade setting my sales rep seemed not to really understand what was different about it. Can you please explain why you and others have paid extra for it (and how much more)? I guess my main question was whether I''d get the good backs and whether the heavy back that I saw people posting about would be the normal back that comes with their settings. But I''m also curious about the handmade mountings. Thanks for any help.
