A friend of mine is looking into engagement rings... He is apprehensive about using an online vendor. If you have a piece from one of the PS vendors, can you share a pic and some info about your experience with them? It would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm buying my second diamond from Good Old Gold. For a top cut, I'd sooner buy from GOG or any of the PS vendors than local stores. It's difficult to find GIA graded let alone AGS triple 0 diamonds in my locale. We get "average" cuts at best.
Browse though the Show Me the Ring thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/the-forum-engagement-ring-folder-eye-candy.5429/ plus these specific color threads for warmer diamonds, etc.

I've bought mostly from WF, not only diamonds but also rings. If you buy a "stock" item your friend has 10 days to return (I think loose diamonds have a longer return period), I ended up returning a ring and basically lost money on just shipping both ways (WF deducts shipping and you pay shipping back) so at least you can try it out. They have been more than gracious to put up with my many many requests and project interests. I love their customer service, so I definitely would recommend working with them too. After the first purchase with them, really the anxiety and nervousness about online jewelry shopping really goes away and I wouldn't have it any other way. I like going out to jewelry stores to check out pieces for inspiration, but most likely will buy online since I know the quality of diamonds and craftsmanship WF produces.

ETA: also I have bought a couple of items from Brian Gavin as well, and as you have probably heard many good things about them too... I'm sure Lesley will put your friend at ease too

Hi Tuckins,

I encounter this and find that putting the apprehensive person in-touch with the seller, as a personal introduction, can go a long way. Talking to an actual expert can dispel the "scary anonymous" internet notion, and the reputable sellers are quite experienced at easing such fears.

As you know, Show Me The Ring has fantastic photos and stories. That could be a great intro, and putting your friend in touch with one of the knowledgable experts you respect (or get permission to have them call) is personal contact that takes it to a new level.

Hey Tuckins,

Personally I feel my thread about my "downgrade" speaks volumes about GOG's customer service and integrity link

there are a ton of photos in there too, so I won't repost here..

I also bought my Legato setting from WF, and would work with them again for sure.

I don't personally have any experience to speak of with JA - out of the 3, my choice would almost always be GOG simply based on my number of transactions and interactions (and of course lovely diamonds!

)- unless that is if the person wanted an ACA specifically, or something to that effect.

I do not have any experience with the WF and JA but do have experience working with GOG. I would WITHOUT reservation recommend Jonathan. I am lucky enough to live ony a short 20 minutes from GOG and have popped in on occasion without an appointment. The store is always buzzing but the salespeople are plentiful and ready to assist at any time.

Jon is SO unbelievably knowledgeable and educated when it comes to diamonds. For a novice diamond shopper like me, the information that he shares is sometimes overwhelming but ALWAYS educational. My first diamond was purchased from Jon in 2004 and I am now taking advantage of their AWESOME trade in/up policy for another stone. I am SO confident with their service and have 110% trust in Jonathan that I have already surrendered my diamond (valued at over 10k). I received store credit (a piece of paper) and waiting to select a new stone.

Have your friend contact Jon as he is always very timely with returning emails.

one more vote for Good Old Jonathan! He rocks!

I recently bought a beautiful stone from JA (this week). They were wonderful to work with, and the diamond is amazing. I don't know what other companies do, but a small loop and viewing table were included in the package. They also have a 1.5% discount for pricescope members, allthough this discount does not stack with any other discounts such as their H&A promotion.

One of the main reasons I initially chose to find a diamond online was for the immediate tax break. Although WF has beautiful diamonds they are based in the state I live in so they were not an option for me.

For more information check out my thread, it was the second diamond out of many I considered.

Thanks!

I would be happy to show pics of her ring and tell my story !!! In fact, I have already done so in "Show me the ring" HERE

I started researching online for quite a long time beforehand and nothing came close to the information and community I found here at Pricescope. This is by far the best place to start. I also had no intention of making such a major purchase such as this online. I was simply seeking information.
What I found is, when done correctly, online is generally going to be THE BEST WAY to get GREAT DIAMONDS at GREAT VALUES.
But wait, there''s more... With most Pricesope vendors the level of personal service can actually go far beyond what is available at most B&M/maul stores !!!!
Case in point: Union Diamond Union Diamond carried the setting we wanted but not the stone in my criteria. SO THEY WENT OUTSIDE OF THEIR INVENTORY TO GET ONE FOR ME. What Jewelry store is going to do THAT???

I've worked with Whiteflash and had a 5 stone ring custom made (before it became a stock setting) and the quality of the platinum setting and diamonds are wonderful! The customer service was great too. I haven't worked with any other PS vendors, so I can't say anything firsthand about them.

I also recognize your 5 stone! It is beautiful... I really hope that I can convince him to go online. He will save SOOOO much money, and the quality of craftsmanship is exquisite!

I''ve had a custom platinum five stone made for me by Whiteflash, and custom YG earrings made with a different type of halo by Good Old Gold. I supplied the main stones for both projects, although GOG did supply the H&A melee for my earrings. Very neat, clean, "as good as you could possibly expect" work by both vendors.
