I have been searching for the perfect diamond for about two months now and have still not found it, so tonight I decided to do a little data mining on Whiteflash ACA diamonds in hope that it would help me narrow my search. I took all of the ACA diamonds in the 0.6 to 1 carat and entered the main dimensions into a spreadsheet and computed the average, min, and max of each value. I figured my results may be of interest to some of you, so here they are:

AVG MIN MAX
Table 56.40 55.2 57.8
Depth 61.47 60.8 62.2
Crown Angle 34.83 34.6 35
Crown Height 15.18 14.8 15.6
Pav Angle 40.77 40.5 40.9
Pav Depth 43.07 42.8 43.2
Lower Half 76.50 75 78
Star Facet 52.65 50 56

Interesting...

... or you could just buy an ACA! :wink2:

But then I have to pay a premium for the name and in my limited experience AGS is definitely a shade soft on color. So to get what I want I would have to go one shade up and that's another premium.

I wouldn't put as much weight on the AGS "softness" as I would with EGL, IGI, or any other less reputable lab.

I have a WF ACA "J" color stone and the only comments I hear about it are that its the most beautiful diamond anyone has ever seen. Would a higher color ACA be more beautiful? Perhaps. Is there ever one around to compare mine to? Nope.

What would your ideal specs and budget be for an e-ring?

I am looking for a Round Brilliant H&A 5.9mm (typically .74-.82 or so) F VS2 GIA Ex/Ex/Ex with:

Table: 55-56
Depth: 60.5-61.7
Crown Angle: 34.5-35
Crown Height: ~15
Pav Angle: 40.6-41
Pav Depth: ~43

My budget for the stone is around $4200 with some flexibility for the right diamond. I would be willing to go to SI1 for the right eyeclean stone and possibly to G but only in GIA cert. Would want E in AGS cert. I am very color sensitive and had a diamond ordered in from James Allen that was AGS G and gemologist told me was a 'high' G in the phone consultation but when I got it I was very disappointed in the color. Definitely an H in my book.

Ja - thanks for the info. I'm surprised you haven't been able to find anything! I mean, those specs seem to be plentiful, but I guess the color aspect is a little tough.

I'm glad you mentioned the color grading of AGS. I almost went with AGS G. If it helps, the GIA G I bought was appraised at a low F... I had a GIA F before and it is icy white. Super nice.

Interesting point about AGS color, I hear often about the one shade color off grade by AGS. Is is always the case? Can we always say that AGS G is GIA H? hm... Has someone actually got their AGS stone apprised by GIA as well and can tell for sure?

.

So tell me, if you get gia ex ex ex with the same dimensions as a white flash ACA will it be as well cut and as good a diamond?

one of my wife's solitaire ring is graded GIA H color and thee other one is graded AGS I, both were graded in 2004. anyhow,IMO...the GIA stone is closer to a G and the AGS I is closer to a J, but this was in 2004. i think it all depends on who was working in the grading lab the day when the stone was graded.

well cut,yes ...but the GIA stone may not be a H&A stone.

Arrghh, its intimidating how much I have to learn...

seems once you get those dimensions you're into the signature range which is of comparable pricing anyway....

I`m no expert (and please someone correct this if wrong) but doesn`t the lower half numbers here lend themselves to resulting in a diamond that has visably fatter shorter arrows? I know that 80 is considered a safe number that results in medium arrows, even though with GIA rounding, 80 may actually be 78 - 82 in reality.

Just thought I would bring this up as it results in a very specific look that is over and above the fact that it is ACA.
