Hi Everyone,

I wanted to update everyone on the status of my stud journey. You've all been so generous with your time and advice. I followed a little bit of everyone's advice. Now I'm just in the waiting phase.

So I returned the WF 1.6 ctw studs. I tried for a long time to be ok with the size, but every time I looked in the mirror, I just thought, "When can I upgrade? What size should I go up to? How long will it take?" So given what I was spending, I wanted to be excited about the new bling, not just "eh...". Here is a picture of my stone and the earrings from WF. The size difference isn't huge but big enough for me to notice (and appreciate ;) ).

image_1701.jpg

So I went back to Liza at WF and told her I was going to try option #2. And she found me this stone.

I am so excited. We had to go up to 1.207 to match the measurements of the 1.11 I had. I think the G will be close enough in color, and it's an eye clean SI1. I decided to pass on the E I1, as great a deal as it was. To my eyes, the inclusion was just causing too much light obstruction. (Although when it was set, it didn't really seem that obvious at all.) I am sure this new stone will be amazing.

So in a way I did compromise with the cut. If I had kept both 0.8 WF stones, I would have had two ideal cut stones. However, because I really wanted a larger size, I used my old e-ring stone, which was cut before the GIA had cut grades. My old GIA cert didn't even show the cut grade. I have to say that I love the sparkle on my stone. It's so random all over the place. I wish I could attach a video the stones next to each other and the ering stone sparkles just as much as the WF stone. That's what I see anyway. The picture below shows the new stone next to my old stone. Mine is on the right. (Well, they're both mine now. :appl: ) I'm really happy with the size and color match. And maybe with the sparkle pattern, I'll be able to tell them apart.

Now...just two more weeks to wait. WF has to recast my settings since the new stones don't fit the old settings. I have to say platinum is really nice to my ears. Healed up real well after I put those platinum studs in. My ears miss them...

Nice. They will be very pretty.

Love the G SI1 combo, plus it looks like a very nice H&A stone too!... :appl:

Yay, I can't wait to see photos. You're the fastest upgrader; you made it from 1.6 ctw to 2.3 ctw in less than 3 weeks! Congrats!

Awesome!!! :appl: A much better choice for a match to your stone, in my opinion! What a great size, too! Now if you ever decide to use your original diamond in something else, you have a very fine ideal cut stone left! So this is a win-win either way!

I think you made a great decision and you seem to be happy with it, which is really what's important. They'll be stunning in your ears!

Thanks DF. I'm excited. My first H&A stone. Yay!! Can't wait.

Oh, I'm glad you decided to match your stone!! I confess, that's what I was hoping for. Your old e-ring stone gets to be worn and loved, you're happy with what you're getting for what you're spending... :appl:

May I ask how you went about matching your stone? Did you send it to WF and ask them to complement appearance and personality, or is it just by size? If it's just by size do you note differences in light return IRL, and if so how do you feel about it?

My studs are right about the same size as yours and I LOVE them! Well, I could go bigger, but that isn't realistically feasible and I'm okay with that because I'm content with the current size. They're old cuts though, so the patterning is slightly different - it's the same "family" of style, and light return is similar, but they aren't identical by any means. It doesn't bother me at all, and that actually surprises me!

Does it really count as an upgrade if I was within the return window? ;)

Thanks DS. I almost emailed you the day I ordered the stone. :). I was so excited to have finally decided. Yeah, if I really want a matching set of ideal cut stones I can do a swap down the road. :). I must admit I do feel much better with this G SI1 as a match. More peace of mind.

DF, I thought all ES stones were H&A. They're not? Oh. Shows you my true ignorance. :). Sorry to ask but what is "true" H&A? They all look like H&A to me.

Hi Yssie, thanks for being a cheerleader for the matching option. See other people I know better than me. Lol. I just sent Liza my GIA report and she worked from there. I cared about diameter and color and diameter matching. As for sparkle, I'm sure that anything WF has will out sparkle my old stone. But I am totally ok with that cause I love that old stone and I personally love how it sparkles. :). So essentially there is no way to match that aspect of it. After she chose a stone that matched on paper I sent her my stone and she examined it and said they would work well as a pair. Given that my big head is between the two stones no one will notice and sparkle difference. ;). I also noticed that on earrings, visually, I notice the color as much as the sparkle. So getting a G should be high enough, esp given the amazing cut.

Yeah, I think figuring out what's mind-clean for *you* is the hardest part!! I was persnickety about colour matching, too, and more willing to forgive differences in structure/outline so long as they were both of the same faceting style.

It is a gorgeous stone!! It's fantastic that the first stone you and Liza picked wound up working so well with your original - and I definitely think the size difference will be obvious on your ears! :sun:

Thank you. You know, while I was deciding on size, I had visions of your ear shot in my minds eye. I remember how you had 2.4 ctw and how that looked so great on your ears. I wanted mine to look that way to me too. Feel free to add any new ear shots when ever you feel like it!! :). Your Oec studs are spectacular.

No, most WF ES are not true H&A. True H&A?...their ACA stones.. ;))

Great match!! I love your choice. You will really enjoy these goodies in your ear.

I'm glad you've finally come to a decision! :)) I have the same 6 prong WF settings but asked for the thicker post w/ 2 notches (as Yssie had suggested to me) and jumbo backs to prevent drooping which may or may not be necessary for you. Can't wait to see the final results!

Thanks mom2boys. I feel like I'm following your foot steps, but with it all being a miniature version. Lol! The two notches is a great idea. I'm gonna send Liza an email today. And are the jumbo backs hard to put on? I don't like the la pousse (sp?) cause they are hard to put on. They help prevent drooping?

I ordered jumbo backs but absolutely did not need them. I don't think you'll need them, either. I just like the regular large backs (not the tiny ones). In my dreams I have studs like mom2boys and then I need the jumbo backs.

Just an FYI, "In addition, Expert Selection Round diamonds must exhibit a distinct hearts and arrows pattern indicating that they possess outstanding optical symmetry." A direct quote from Whiteflash in regard to Expert Selection. Distinct ;) Hearts and Arrows pattern are the norm, not the exception.

Ok, no jumbo backs needed. ok, thanks DS.

Yeah, but not all ES stones are "true H&A"

Good grief DF, what's a "true H&A"? Is the stone that you linked to a "true H&A"? If not, what specifically causes it NOT to be?

All I know is what I can see from the pictures. Looks pretty hearts and arrows to me. What am I missing?

Yeah! How cool is that?? I do see it. wow... It's like playing that game on the back pages of People. What is the difference between these two pictures? I can see it now. Maybe that is why this is NOT an ACA? So all of the hearts have to be exactly the same, and I guess that would go for the arrows too. So those arrows are good enough?
