Which would you choose?

The real trick would be being able to see yours and the I side by side. I do think from a clarity standpoint the I is better than your J and I know that color is not something you fret about. Surely someone is available at WF to be able to meet with you to compare it as least face up with your current diamond since it is set. I honestly feel like that would be a good enough test for you to see if you wanted to move forward with the trade.

I’m familiar with this diamond. I also inquired about it when it was a new listing, I think back in April. It’s the size I want (9.5mm) and the price is great. It would have cost very little to upgrade for me.
I had WF take pictures side by side with other diamonds but the diamond has yellow undertones and to me they were noticeable when compared to another I and an H. I knew it would look yellower next to the H but to me it looks even yellower than the I In the picture as well. And I love my current diamond tbh so if I trade it, it has to be a diamond I have no regrets over.
Even my salesperson mentioned that it has yellow undertones. So I passed.
Below are the pictures they sent me.

Ooo I love the tone of this diamond! Looks like it’s glowing, and in the face up photo it looks whiter than the rest. I’d take this in a heartbeat ❤️

Thanks @kayla17! Oh, that is definitely more yellow than yours. I wish I weren't so picky!!! This definitely gives me pause since I am paying for an I. I really wish they had a J with better clarity at this size. I am afraid I will have a long wait if I don't do it though. One thing I know for sure is that if something bothers you about a stone, it will only get more bothersome as time goes on. The lack of crispness drives me crazy in my current stone. It looks like it's dirty all the time. Since I really don't care too much about color, do you think the yellow in this stone would be more of a problem than the clarity in my stone?

Thinking out loud, I know that's my question to answer. I really really appreciate this information though.

Kayla’s post is super helpful but it’s also comparing the 3.24 I to another I and an H. You’re coming from a J so this stone should still be whiter. A more “fair” comparison would be to ask them to take pics of the 3.24 next to these 2 J’s they have in stock and see how it compares:

I think it would be a beautiful stone and I would personally prefer it over living with a stone whose clarity drives me bonkers on a daily basis like it sounds your current stone is! And since it’s so easy with WF to trade up, you could continue to monitor inventory as well.

I have it on hold and will talk to them on Monday. I can easily make a checklist but all items have different weight. I do think that clarity may outweigh them all at this point. And like it has been said before, I can always upgrade again if a stone with a cut i more prefer comes along. It's almost silly to be so nitpicky about an ACA. Pricescope, you have ruined me!

Texas Leaguer has said in a thread that supply isn’t plentiful, because of Covid Restrictions. So who knows how long it will take for the holy grail diamond (that checks all boxes) to arrive in their inventory.

Excited about what you will end up with (:

Cut wise I'd prefer the smaller table with a higher crown. That's just me. ;))

I often see the preference for a smaller table and higher crown— but I can’t seem to find a photo of one compared to a mid to large table and normal crown. Does anyone have one? Or can you describe to me what you love about this combo? I’d love to see the difference!

Don’t forget the sales tax factor. You pay sales tax on the gross price of the new stone. If you upgrade again, you will have to pay it again. You should check with your state how they calculate sales tax in the situation, and check with WF how they calculate it.

It isn't too bad in Texas, where both wf and I am. You only have to pay tax on the difference in the price of the stones. I was shocked to know that some states require taxing on the gross. That's double taxation. And as often as some of us upgrade, it could be triple, quadruple, etc.

Nothing wrong with a 56-57% table. A smaller table with a high crown is my personal preference. Wish I can custom order a 54.5% table with a 15.7% crown height.

IMO, a small table with a high crown will perform its best in low lighted condition. I used to own this stone...

That’s excellent news!

I think you made a good decision @Gussie :appl:

I upgraded to the new stone, sight unseen. Since I live so close to wf, I have always seen stones in person. This is a new experience for me, lol. I decided to pull the trigger for several reasons. And I had a tough decision regarding the setting. The EW setting was made for a 9.7-9.8mm stone and the new stone is only 9.5mm, just a bit too small. While it probably could have worked, it wouldn't have been perfect. So, I decided to set the new stone in my CvB Dahlia. As time has passed, I realize what a beautiful setting it is and the new stone will fit in it perfectly. I have been told by several designers that it isn't recommended to set smaller stones in custom settings with lots of prongs. I love my Margot but I really was tired of the clarity in my stone. So I am completely happy with this decision. And of course, I will continue to monitor inventory until the perfect stone pops up. I may just be a serial upgrader. But, hey, that's ok! :D

I pick it up Friday!!!

Congratulations! It sounds like you made a great call! Will you be able to keep your current stone until you see the new stone or do you send it back prior to getting it? I’m curious about the logistics of a WF trade-in and what would happen if someone didn’t love their new stone.

I saw that the 3.24ct. was no longer available and assumed you bought it. I hope my earlier comment didn’t steal your thunder. This ring will be gorgeous! CvB’s Dahlia is really a stunning setting and should add to the visual diameter of the stone. I‘m so excited for you!

Lol, no worries! I am not much of a thunder seeker! :D

Exciting stuff - until Friday then!!

So exciting and for PSers it’s so fun to follow the serial upgraders

Did you start missing the dahlia setting?
Can’t wait to hear how you feel about the new stone!

I dropped my stone off yesterday. I don't think you could keep the old stone until you get the new one unless you paid for it in full. Plus there is a process for verification that the trade in stone isn't damaged. I don't know what they would do about it if you preferred the old stone.

I had the Dahlia set with a cz and I did wear it for a day to see if I was willing to forego my Margot for the time being. The Dahlia is beautiful and I do like it a lot and the petal "halo" will make the 0.2mm difference in my stone and the new stone seem less apparent. I love the Margot though. When the perfect stone pops up or is possibly custom cut, I will then use the Margot again and it will be like getting a whole new ring!

How exciting @Gussie, can’t wait to see your upgrade.

Excited for you @Gussie ! Keep us posted!

I’m excited to see the upgrade too!

Lol, I feel giddy! It's always amusing to me how excited I get, just like a kid at Christmas! :P2

That's the fun of all of it!!

Soooooo....

My initial impression is :kiss2:! I am almost shocked that I see such a difference in the color. Lol, so guess I won't be going back to a J. The arrows look crisp and the transparency is not an issue. It looks more like my first WF stone which I really loved. Except this one us much whiter. As for nuances of cut performance, that will take me much longer to see. Architecturally I do see the the difference in crown angle and table size but it definitely doesn't look flat so I am pleased there. I also don't notice the size difference either but that may be due to the setting. Here are a few pics. AT&T is on the way with a new phone so I will post a few more later and I will be able to judge my new camera then too. A huge shout out to those who urged me to give this stone a chance!!! @SimoneDi, @MissGotRocks, @tyty333, @Bonfire, @Gemly, @kayla17

:appl: I’m so happy your initial impression is :kiss2: It looks beautiful! I can see a difference in color from your J too. Your Dahlia setting is REALLY gorgeous and because of the larger basket and prongs I really don’t notice much of a size difference, from the pictures anyway. WF did a nice job on the prongs btw. Have fun getting to know her! Can’t wait to see many more pictures.
