I finally picked the setting I like and am wondering which cut of diamond would best suit the setting. I can''t decide between a hearts and arrows round brilliant or an oec. I''m leaning towards oec but am open to other suggestions as well.

Also, I''m waiting on an idealscope image for this diamond from James Allen but can anyone explain why this particular h&a rb is relatively cheap compared to others?

Is it because of the J color? I should be able to get away with that since I''m using a gold setting right? As always, thanks for your help.

I think this setting is lovely but lends itself more towards a RB than an OEC... An OEC IMHO should go into a less modern setting, something that is less busy but classic and elegant...

I adore this setting, don''t get me wrong.. But I think it''s a tad busy for an OEC... I''d rather the OEC get the attention, more so than the setting... Again, JMHO.

Ditto.

thanks for the input kaleigh and swingirl. It''s funny that you called that a modern setting. This is actually part of the Scott Kay vintage collection and that''s what made me think an oec might look better. I can see why you think a rb would fit better though.

Good question. One possibility is, it is not what would be considered a true H&A stone. Up until now, JA has not offered heart pics, (though I hear they will sometime in the future). So you can''t really compare this with other true hearts and arrows stones.

That is a very pretty setting, it would look lovely with a round H&A

I too think that the setting is more modern, and would look lovely with a round brilliant H&A!

I picked round brilliant because I too think it''s a modern-looking setting. But really, I think you should figure out which style of diamond you like best and get that. There''s no reason an OEC couldn''t go in that setting. As far as "busyness" goes, modern round brilliants are much busier-looking than OECs because they have many more, sharper virtual facets.

You should try to look at both kinds in person and see which you like better. You might find you have a strong preference.

I picked RB, but if i could re-do, i would choose "other" and specify cushion instead! Cushion with double claw looks fantastic, and would be perfect with that design IMO.

Glad to help!
