So I bought this diamond from Brian Gavin:

http://www.agslab.com/pdf_sync_reports/104071504124-PGR.PDF

But after iffy customer service and the fact that they are not willing to work with me on helping me get the setting I want, I am going to have to either return this diamond or send this diamond to another vendor to finish the production of the ring. Unfortunately, I do not have any real pictures of the diamond above... I was told that pictures would be coming my way soon but it isn't here.

So this is probably an unfair comparison since I don't have pictures of it. Come to think of it, I do feel a bit suckered into buying it because I was forced to feel that the diamond is a really good price for it's size and quality so if I didn't buy it now and wait for pictures, it can easily be snatched up by someone else.

Anyway...

This is the other diamond that Melissa from Wink suggested to me based on my budget. What do you guys think? Should I care more about color or clarity? The diamond I bought is a J, it stinks because I don't actually know what that looks like... my husband is stationed overseas and I don't think I have worked up my Italian enough to go to a vendor to talk about diamonds :) So I don't know if I am sensitive to color or not. The infinity diamond does have more noticeable inclusions based on the report but I'm thinking it will be clean to the eye... But based on the info provided, what will you personally go with? Just trying to dig around the expert's brain a little.

Hi Vina,

I am sorry this isn't proving to be as straightforward as maybe you originally thought, but fear not, we have two superb vendors and 2 superb stones here, you won't get it wrong.

First, let me say I am not particularly colour sensitive, I love diamonds of all colour grades, the whites, the slightly warms and the outright tinted! But I feel for a buyer that is perhaps unsure and can't view the colour grades in person, that it is maybe safer to think about the higher colour and lower clarity option if verified eye clean to your specifications. A J colour especially of this cut quality is not going to appear yellow in any way, but it could be less crisp than the G colour, especially from the side view, some might not notice that or be bothered by it anyway as these colour grade differences in these cut qualities are so incredibly subtle. The size difference between the two face up is going to be negligible.

Also you can't judge ' eye cleanliness' or lack thereof by the plotting diagram of the report, the only way is to consult an expert with the diamond in hand, in this case Wink, who will be delighted to discuss the diamond with you.

It's hard to know what to advise and I really can't tell you which way to go, two stunning diamonds, two top notch vendors who are also gentlemen to boot....I think it comes down to your settings issue and who can resolve that best to your satisfaction, your colour preferences and concerns and whether the SI Infinity is eye clean to your specifications, contact Wink in the first instance and he will be pleased to help, that would give you a place to start.

I hope this helps!

I have purchased from BGD in the past, and would not hesitate to work with them on a stone again.

That being said, I would choose the HPD stone in an instant.

Equally eye-clean as the J-colored stone, very close in size (will not be perceptible to the naked eye), but 3 color grades better?

Easy choice for me.

Call Wink now!

You really need to 'shop some blingage on your furry little ears Rocky, perhaps a diamond necklace would look nice too....

This is actually the type of answer I was looking for :appl:
Thank you for all your input and helping me weigh out my options. My finger size is 3.5 so I was okay with going below 1 ct at .9 but the .8 was starting to make me feel a bit hesitant. But I'm sure like you say, the size difference will not look any different to me especially with my novice eyes.

I have been extremely happy with Wink's communication so far and amazing customer service is so crucial when it comes to this buying business. I never knew how much there is in diamond buying until now! It's been stressful but really enjoyable at the same time. My friend thinks I'm crazy for wanting to do all this and have my husband be on the sideline. He barely has time to sleep so I'm really picking up this diamond research as a new hobby.

Love the Infinity stone!

I am color sensitive and would choose the G colored diamond from Wink.

But let me tell you something about Wink.

I have known him for 10 years, have completed two projects with him, and am currently working on a third.

I contacted BG (when he worked at WF) about making a diamond tennis bracelet with .25s-.33s. He never got back
to me after the initial discussion so Wink got the job and delivered a beautiful handcrafted bracelet made of .33s GH-VS2-SI1.

After this, we worked with Richard Homer to recut my 3.05 ct sapphire. The finished product was just beautiful.

Being that I have a Gemologist Diploma from the GIA, I am very picky about my jewelry, but was extremely happy with the craftsmanship and customer service that I have received from Wink. He is the consummate gentleman and I greatly value his knowledge, honesty, and integrity.

As others have said, call Wink NOW !!!! You won't be sorry.
