I'm torn between 2 looks.

A tapered basket setting like the Gabrielle http://www.eternitydiamonds.com/eng...olitaire-with-Formed-Band-by-Eternity-140.htm

that I might wear with a bezel band like shimmer's https://www.pricescope.com/communit...eek-line-ering-and-custom-wedding-band.89707/

or

A trellis setting like this one http://www.adiamor.com/R-1281-R2180-1-1.htm

worn with a curved plain band like this http://www.adiamor.com/R-1307-R2816-2.htm

My finger size is 3.75 for reference.

Which do you think will make the diamond look best?

On your tiny finger? I think either one will look lovely. I think people generally tend to feel that tapered bands make the stones look bigger, but I *really* like the look of the trellis setting. That's got my vote!

Definitely a HALO setting. You can get a squarish or cushionish shape or round shape Halo setting, which is basically small diamonds surrounding the center stone. I don't know how to cut and paste here but I am sure you can search the forum - Show me the Bling ) and see halo settings. That's my vote because it will look prettier and larger too, it will def. give it much more presence. She'll love it :wavey:

between the two the tapered band, although I like the trellis type setting just not that one as it is rather thick at 4.5 mm.

I agree with slg...the tappered. You have a small finger and the trellis (very pretty) seems a little too wide.

A halo or bezel will increase finger coverage. I'm not a fan of a bezel with a tapered band, however, because I think it looks class-ring-ish. How about something like this (in the metal of your choice): https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/rings-including-new-gog-omc-gog-transitional-and-others.122933/ ?

I'm not really looking to increase the finger coverage of my diamond, I really love the size of the half carat. My original e-ring is a third carat set in a half bezel (my avatar), so I want a prong setting for my upgrade. I don't think I'll halo either because I like the simple look.

how about this???

one of my favorite solitaire look. The shank is pretty dainty and will make your diamond pop!

but if its just between what you have linked, I like the first option as the tapered band towards the head does help make the diamond "appear" larger imo

That's really pretty! It looks like the diamond sits high though. I know I will lose some brilliance by having a low setting, but I don't want my ring to get caught in everything.

In general, if a band is narrow near the diamond, it will "pop" more. If you go with a uniformly narrow shank, it will pop. If you go with a pinched band like the Gabrielle, it will pop too. Trellis bands tend to be thicker and have the thickest part of the shank near the diamond, so they are not for popping.

If you want to avoid catching, however, cathedrals (a trellis is a cathedral with an X-basket) are the way to go because nothing sticks up.

The setting you have now is very pretty too -- and will do the pop without catching -- but I understand that you may want to mix things up.

Good info antelope! :)

I actually used to love my e-ring, it's a Birks copycat. However, it ended up in the hands of a terrible jeweler, :nono: and now it doesn't look like the picture anymore and I don't like it very much anymore.
