Hi Everyone,

My bf and I are trying to decide between two diamonds. Could you tell me which is the better choice. One is about $1000.00 more than the other, but they are pretty similar-

Option 1:
EGL- USA certified
1.71 ct Round Brilliant
F Color
SI2

measurements: 7.63 x 7.55 x 4.84

Depth: 63.8%
Table: 58 %
Crown: 15.3 %
Pavillion: 45.0 %
Culet: None
Polish: very Good
Symmetry- Fair to Good
Fluorences: None

Option 2:
Egl-USA
1.71 Round Brilliant
F color
SI2
7.52 x 7.44 x 4.66

Depth: 62.3%
Table: 62%
Crown: 13.8 %
Pavillion: 42.5%
Culet: None
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry- Very Good
Fluorensces: None

thank you v. much in advance!

Are these round diamonds? If so, they appear to be fairly deeply cut. Option 2 has a better crown-pavillion % combination, which makes it score much better on the HCA (though angles are more precise, so the score could increase or decrease). I'd also be concerned about the Fair to Good symmetry on option 1. One question, though, how thick is the girdle on option 2?

Option 1 HCA: 4.9 (Good only if price is your main criterion): Good-Good-Fair-Good
Option 2 HCA: 2.4 (Worth buying if the price is right): Very Good-Very Good-Very Good-Very Good

Can you get IdealScope images of the second one to get a more concrete idea of what its light return looks like?

They are Round Brilliants~

Okay, I just looked up ~1.7 RBs on a few Pricescope vendor's websites. Good Old Gold has a 1.71 G VS1 that measures 7.63 to 7.68 by 4.76 mm with a medium to slightly thick girdle, nonetheless. Although Option 2 has better numbers, it seemed to face up awfully small, which is why I asked about the girdle before.

It would appear that this stone is hiding a lot of its weight in the girdle, which means you are paying for something you can't see.

Here are some potentially better options:
1.71 G VS1
1.66 carat F-SI1
1.654 Carat G VS2

If you're dead set on one of these two stones, number 2 is probably the better one still.

thanks abradabra!

seems like you are in good hands ID
