3 carater for fun! Please don’t let this beautiful stone sway your vote!

I am eagerly awaiting my WF solitaire and am deciding between 18k rose gold, 18k yellow gold and platinum settings. I went to Tiffany’s and compared. I wear mostly rose gold and consider it “home” although the yellow is a nice pop. Which metal do you prefer? Thank you!

I said this on your other thread, but platinum is neutral so you can wear other jewelry in any color gold. I think rose gold is pretty, but it goes in and out of style and yellow gold does, too, but to a lesser extent. But a classic platinum setting is always safe. For all the years I have looked at Tiffany, the majority of their Tiffany solitaires engagement rings were platinum.

That said, if you have mostly rose gold jewelry or mostly yellow gold jewelry, I think you should buy what you like the most and what will go with most of the jewelry you plan to wear.

And if there are WF upgrades in the future, I can always change settings. Best to go with what I like NOW. I don’t think platinum is as flattering on my skin tone as rose gold. I am also drawn to yellow gold but am wary as I have few yellow gold pieces.

I assume that if I have WF’s knife edge softened and prongs altered like the ones I’ve seen here, that the setting is final sale?

I am pretty sure if you customize it, it's a final sale. But I cant imagine you not liking it. We've had several people buy that setting and they loved it. I think the rose gold is beautiful if that is what you wear the most!

You have the WF knife edge, yes? If so, did you have the edges softened? Is it comfortable or did it take time to get used to?

I’m accustomed to a comfort band— the Tiffany’s setting kind of hurt!

No, I have the Vatche U-113. You don't feel knife edge bands when wearing a wedding band that is the same height off the finger. You feel it much more when the ring is worn alone. The only thing I changed was asking for a harder platinum alloy. But if you go with rose gold with a platinum head, you won't need to worry about that. I'd tell them to slim it down to around 2mm. I doubt their knife edge was sharp to begin with, but you can ask for it to be softened if you want.

Of the three, rose gold would be my absolute last choice for a few reasons.

#1 It doesn't compliment your skin tone and, although beautiful in it's own right, is a total fad right now
#2 It's almost impossible to pair other RG jewelry with it because the alloys are so different (and 18K looks coppery anyway)
#3 It's not as neutral -- platinum is the most neutral (as @diamondseeker mentioned)

My favorite on you is the platinum. My set is in platinum (see avatar) and I wear mostly yellow gold for everything else. White metal just goes with everything, but not as true for yellow gold, and certainly not for rose gold.

OP, what color metal do you wear most?

Edit: just saw where you mostly wear RG... I'd go with platinum. That way, you can wear RG or YG and they will both match with the platinum seamlessly.

She said rose gold

Regarding the knife edge, I have to agree with DS... it's soooo comfy -- I hardly know I'm wearing it!
The key is pairing it with a wedding ring of the same height or even just a smidge larger or smaller (like a VERY tiny difference)

My tri-wire wedding ring is just the very slightest bit shorter than my knife edge, but I can't tell the difference -- I'm talking like a 0.1 mm difference). For all intents and purposes, it's looks EXACTLY the same height... I just know bc I'm OCD. ;)

Rose gold! It's your favorite metal and, as you stated, what most of your existing pieces are. It's stunning and special. Everybody has a platinum or white gold solitaire. Rose gold is not as ordinary.

I'm platinum all the way! :) I cannot wait to see your final ring.. it's gonna be a gorgeous HONKER!

I prefer Plat for the strength, but next I’d choose yellow gold. I find YG so romantic

YG looks best to my eye, but that's just one set of photos/lighting and the cloth from the jacket is playing a role I think. My advice is just get what YOU like - don't worry about the fad or anything else.

Thanks for the input!

It was not good lighting for pictures and I've had to brighten some of them so it's not an accurate representation. I ordered some CZ 2 carat solitaires online in plated white, yellow and rose gold. I know the colors will vary from the real thing but I can make a more informed decision after wearing each one for a week or so.

I like the way you think, Laila619!

I adore rose and yellow gold. I had a platinum solitaire and while it was beautiful and I did like it, I wished it was in a warm metal instead, lol. In your photos, to me the rose and the yellow look exactly the same.....for my eyes they both look yellow so it's hard to choose based on the pictures. I have found that 18kt rose can look more subtle, less coppery/pink and some 18kt rose gold looks almost like yellow gold. Of course the alloy will vary so that is not a hard rule by any means. I think you should choose based on what makes you feel the best when you look down at it on your hand. I'm completely fine mixing metals so having a platinum solitaire so it matches with rose and yellow doesn't matter to me but you may not feel the same way =)2. There's something about a warm metal solitaire that is romantic and lovely. Such personal preference though! Don't worry about fads....if 10-15 years down the line you want a platinum solitaire then so be it! Choose for the now and enjoy it!

Hmmm in the pics I liked from top down the first and second on you. Plat and YG lolol.
