Which finger?

I am fascinated by this liquid flower cut and had purchased one for myself to be made into a ring. I like to make it sit on a large lotus silver ring.

The problem is that it is is big and deep, almost 10mm (face size) by 6mm deep. Will it sit well on the finger? And also, which finger will it look better on?

Thanx for reading my question..

I rarely wear rings on anything but my ring finger, except for one very large aquamarine ring that just looks better on my middle finger. I think I prefer really large rings on the middle finger, but it's very much a personal preference.

I share the same thoughts that larger rings look better on the middle or index finger.

I think rings on the middle finger look a little awkward. A big ring is great on the RH ring finger. I also love pinky rings, have a few myself, but yours would be too large, of course. If you love the ring, wherever makes you happy is the place!

Can I be a complete dunce and just check something, please...?

The finger that you are calling the "ring finger" is the mirror image finger of one's engagement/wedding ring finger, but on the RH: is that correct? So the "middle finger" is the second from the thumb (ie thumb = 0, pointer = 1, "middle" = 2)...?

All of which is somewhat moot, given that I don't choose fingers for rings based purely on aesthetics. On my right hand, my middle and ring fingers are close but slightly different in size, so when choosing a RHR I size it slightly large for one finger, which is slightly small for the other, if that makes any sense. This way, in summer ( ie most of the year, here) I wear it on the slightly smaller/skinnier finger, then in the middle of winter, or when I travel to somewhere colder, or if I have lots of lotion on my hands, I wear it on the larger finger.

It's the only way I can make my RHRs safe - and wearable - all year round, since my fingers shrink significantly in cool/cold or low humidity climates.

Thanx jewelfreak and rae, does this drawing make sense? anything amiss? sorry I do not know how to size it/rotate etc..

OK, so perhaps my understanding is correct, since that diagram fits with my terminology. :)

Well, this could be a first!!!!

Crasru had a liquid flower amethyst set into a ring, and it looks very nice, but I'm not sure which finger she wears it on. I sized mine for my ring finger, but it's about half the size of your stone, so it was easy.

I tend to size rings for my ring finger because (1) I know the size, and (2) it's 6.75, which is pretty close to the standard 7 that many jewelers stock. Aside from my pinky, which is a 4, all my other fingers are larger, and sometimes it can be expensive to size up. I do like the look of larger rings on the middle or index finger, and I actually just asked a jeweler to size a ring with a 9mm chrysoprase for my middle finger.

Agnesq - it really is just a matter of personal preference - if this is your first "big stone" ring, maybe it'd be a good idea for you to go try on some rings that are similarly large so you can get a feel for how they look and feel on different fingers.

I'm the outlier I guess so far in this thread - I wear my wedding rings on my left-hand ring finger, but on my right hand I wear one ring on my middle finger - I do have a preference for large gemstone solitaires, but I also like wearing my dainty Lotus ring from Heart of Water and other delicate settings on that finger - it just seems "balanced" to me. Once in a blue moon I'll put an extra ring on my left hand pointer finger, or on my right hand pinkie, but generally its the wedding rings to the left, and the one ring on the middle finger to the right (which changes every day).

Have fun with your setting - hope you'll post pics when you've decided what to do!

My ring is not, really, mine, it was made and meant to be a gift to my son's teacher. We later had to resize it because I did not know her finger's size at the time. Well, her ring finger is size 6. She is a petite woman yet the ring does not look large on her - or rather, it does, but the cut attracts attention, so it is good. She likes it, and I like it on her, but I put another liquid flower in a pendant and like it even more.

Thanx, I will size it a little bigger for my middle finger, which will fit a little smaller on my index finger. That way I can wear it on both. Thanx for all suggestions.

10 mm on even the ring finger isn’t that huge (of course, this depends on your comfort zone), but the 6 mm height worries me.

It worries me also.. Looking rather peculiar will it? I feel that it's especially so if worn on the index.
