Asscher
1.00ct D VS1
55% Table
67% depth
Excellent polish and symmetry
$5,355

or

Asscher
1.52ct I SI2
58% table
64.8% depth
Excellent polish and symmetry
very good cut (according to blue nile)
$6,766

So my question is:

Is it worth the extra $1400 for a .5ct more but less quality

I am the average guy and I dont have that "special" eye and they both pretty much look the same to me--I mean they both sparkle great

If these are both from Blue Nile they don't supply images which are so important to judge the cut and patterning of Asschers so hard to know what to tell you....Storm should be along later and give you his advice but he really prefers having images such as ASET and detailed photos plus a Sarin report on each diamond. Also in step cuts SI2 might not be eyeclean, often its better to stick to VS or better for clarity with these shapes. Also the cut grades given by vendors are no guarantee of a well cut diamond and particularly with fancy shapes where it gets more complicated.

Lorelei, I believe this is the post with pics on the D VS1.https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/should-i-buy-this-asscher.123394/

I would go with the D VS1 as it is the stone you have seen unless you have the time to look at it, appraised it and return it if you do not like the BN stone. BN will not be able to supply you any pic. I believe step cut is best to have a higher clarity grade than a SI2 as inclusions are more easily visible. Did BN say it is eye-clean. Also the D VS1 might be gone by the time you decide the I SI2 is not for you.
