I'm certainly no professional on this, but I typically prefer quality over quantity; I would go with Diamond 2. You can't go wrong with an AGS0, and as a pretty colour-sensitive individual I would prefer the G over an I (although some people can't even see a difference!). Keep in mind that fluorescence is typically a devaluing aspect of diamonds, which adds another "pro" to diamond 2.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the diamonds to figure out where the inclusions are and whether they would be noticeable when the diamond was set. However, I'd have confidence buying an AGS0 on paper.

This one is pretty easy! A .91 I SI1 GIA very good cut I SI1 vs. a .86, G SI1 AGS0....

Clear choice to me is the .86 AGS0 stone. Better cut and color but a little bit smaller. If the other one was excellent cut, then you might justify sacrificing color for size. But I wouldn't sacrifice cut.

diamond 2 for sure, between these two. check with the vendor to see if it is eye-clean.

Diamond 2. It has a better cut and higher color.

i agree with those that have weighed in so far - diamond #2 looks like it would be the "better" stone based on the numbers...

a couple PSers gave me good advice about a possible issue with the short depth/large table combination in diamond #1 - an "obstruction" - darkness in the stone - can occur with stones of shallower depths. if you get within 12 inches or something like that to look at it closely, your head blocks light and causes the stone to appear dark. sure enough, when we got to see the diamond it darkened in the middle at close range. a possible issue to look out for if you decide to see diamond #1 in person or have a chance to compare the two.

(the one we saw i think was 58% depth and 61% table just FYI)

I could not agree more! Definitely would pick cut quality over the minimal size gain. The excellent cut of the AGSO will make it appear larger and more sparkly! That for me, in addition to the better color, makes it the clear winner

Would diamond 2 still be your choice with it being $300 more expensive.

YES! It's a better stone, and in my opinion worth the extra 300 when you are spending the kind of money you are on an engagement ring.

Yes! after looking at the shallow stone mentioned in my post above, my fiance and I found a AGS0 that we love. OF COURSE, every stone is different, and there is a range of inclusions out there within the SI-1 category that might impact your preference between the two, but from the numbers it would seem that your $300 is buying you a LOT more diamond for your money!!
