Hi,

I am new here. I have been reading all the great information here. I am learning a lot about diamonds that I did not know. I have not really looked at buying a diamond since my husband got my wedding set 15 years ago. We are looking at getting a 3 stone ring and we are concerned with getting a nice quality diamond for the center stone. Our search has let us to here and we have been learning a lot. We have decided on a diamond from Whiteflash that is a RB. I wanted to get the opinion of those with much more experience here and I have a few questions. Here are the numbers for the diamond:

.771 ct. RB H VVS2 ACA H&A
AGS report #8125004
Depth 61%
Table 56.2 %
Crown Angle 34.7
Pavillion Angle 40.8
Lower girdle 77.2%

Girdle: Thin to medium faceted

This has an HCA score of 1.3 Ex Ex Ex Vg
My question is about the HCA score. When I plug in the numbers from the Sarin report (which are slightly different from the AGS figures) the HCA score comes up 1.7 Ex Vg Vg Vg. Why is it so different? What is going on? Anyone have any opinions on this diamond? I don''t know how to paste the pictures of the Ideal scope etc here but you can see the pics at the Whiteflash website by typing in the AGS # in search. Any info is appreciated.
Here are the Sarin report numbers:

Depth 61.3%
Table 56.4%
Crown Angle 34.7
Pavillion Angle 40.9

Here is the info on another diamond we had considered with this one if anyone has any thoughts on this one also.

.772ct G VS1 ACA H&A RB
AGS report #8125302
Depth 61.7%
Table 56.4%
Crown angle 34.8
Pavillion angle 40.7
Girdle medium to slightly thick faceted
Lower girdle 75.8%

HCA is 1.2 for this one. The Sarin numbers are a little different for this one also but it ends up 1.1 HCA. Thanks again for any thoughts in muddliing through this confusion. I just want to make the best decision and get the best diamond.
I also have one more question about the difference in the lower girdles on the two diamonds. Does that make a difference at all? Thanks,
Tanya

Kuraylu,

Welcome to Pricescope.

On the color & clarity alone, I''d prefer the second, but both would probably be lovely.

Measurement variances are just that...based on differences in equipment. Though you''d tend to favor AGS''s equipment over WF''s...since in both cases, your result is between 1 & 2 on HCA, that'' reason #1 not to worry. Reason #2 is that both get AGS0, which makes you worry less about HCA, also.

Not sure about girdles.

Regards,

Thanks for the info Ira! Anyone else have any thoughts? Thanks,
Tanya

Both are great stones. The first one is sold, so if that''s you congrats.

Thanks Kaleigh. Yes, I went ahead and took that one since both looked very similar when they pulled them to have a look. I then noticed the differences in the HCA score on that one with the AGS figures and the Sarin figures and then was confused so I decided to ask the opinions and thoughts of those here who know a whole lot more than I do :). Thanks,
Tanya

Tanya, when comparing two ACA''s, you almost can close your eyes and pick. They are all top stones, so you can''t go wrong! Between those two the only real difference is the color. You can''t tell the difference between VS1 and VVS2, so I wouldn''t decide based on clarity. But for the very small price difference, I''d go for the G color over the H.

Thanks for your thoughts diamondseeker. Do you know why I would see such a difference in the AGS and Sarin numbers to make the HCA score so different? Thanks,
Tanya
