Good evening,
I've been looking for guidance regarding the choices I've encountered while searching for a round, ideal cut loose diamond to be set in a solitaire or simple minimal diamond band setting.
We would like to make a decision on a diamond this week if at all possible - and are paying cash so several local jewelers claim to be offering a bit of a discount off their normal prices. I have a size 8 finger so even a larger stone looks a little smaller on my finger than it would on a more petite lady.
This is what I've encountered so far. I like each of them yet want to get the highest quality diamond for our money. All stones are ideal cuts. The 1.54 carat diamond is listed as a hearts and arrows stone on the certificate. I viewed the 1.51 carat diamond in a Sarin scope and saw hearts and arrows as well. The other two are ideal cuts though I'm unsure about the presence of the hearts and arrows designation as of yet - if that makes a difference regarding the prices listed and your opinions.
IDEAL CUT PRICE
1.54 G SI1 8500 - This stone has two small light looking bubbles that I cannot see without the loupe.
2.01 J SI2 8900 - Has a small minimally-noticeable inclusion on the bottom & was told a prong may hide it (?). Like the size.
Walked outside with this stone on cloudy day and it did not appear yellow.
1.60 H VS2 9568 - Like the bigger size/clarity. (Settings pricey at this jeweler though owner's son is an acquaintance.)
1.51 H VS1 10000 - Beautiful stone on high end of price range. (Jeweler doesn't rhodium plate or replace small stones in bands.)
We want to stay around the $10,000-$11,000 price range to include the diamond and either a white gold solitaire setting or a minimal diamond setting and wedding band for $1000-1500 additional.
There's something to be said for being able to take the diamond back to the jeweler for free rhodium plating and replacement of any setting/band diamonds that may get lost. The last store offers those services at a charge.
Please let me know what you think about the best value here based on the information given.
Thanks!
Pam
