This a such a wonderful and informative site on diamonds! I have been reading up on cushion cuts and with all this information I feel like this is my second job!

I''m having trouble deciding between these two stones and I would greatly appreciate any thought you all could give me.

Both stones have and antique look and pictures of both look beautiful.

#1

2.4 HSI1
Depth: 66.5
Table: 56
Girdle: TN-STK
Culet: sightly large
polish: very good
symmetry: good
no fluorescence
ratio: 1.12

#2
2.37 GVS2
Depth: 61.3
Table: 55
Girdle: Tn-STK
Culet: Medium
Polish: Very good
symmetry: good
ratio: 1.15

Stone number one is eye clean and when I looked at a picture comparing this stone to another cushion that was a G in color (but not stone 2) I could not see the difference in color. I am a little nervous about buying a HSI1 stone- however, according to the vendor (Uniondiamond) it is a beautiful, vibrant, eye clean stone. This stone is also $6000 less than stone 2. I should also say that the depth on #2 (too shallow?) worries me a little for a antique style cushion. Should I spend the extra money on stone #2? Or does #1 sound like a nice option?

Please help!

Do you have pics of these stones? With fancy stones, you have to let your eye be the judge, and not go by the numbers alone. I have a cushion too.

Perhaps you could post those pictures?

I agree that trying to find a cushion is a full time job! Thank goodness I now have a wedding to plan, or I don''t know what I would do with my free time now that I have my stone! lol

Seriously, they both look pretty good, though I would lean towards #1 based on numbers and price. BUT I don''t think this is a decision that can be made on numbers. If you have seen both, then great. Which one "speaks" to you more? If you haven''t seen them in person, can this vendor send them both to an independent appraiser in your area so that you can? Barring that, does the vendor have a return policy that would allow you to return the stone if it arrives and you don''t love it? ''Cause the visual on a cushion is key.

Let us know what you decide!

gosh I dunno - you kinda have to see them.... I agree that #2 is not as deep as I''d like myself but SI1 isn''t as high as I''d like either - not for the antique cushions - a real antique cushion/omc cut is like an EC in that it shows EVERYTHING. I''m not content with industry "eye clean" standards - if I can see it with my eye, its gonna bug me. I have a VS2 antique cushion and I can find theinclusions ith a loop - and some effort - been told it''s a high vs2.. but I think anything remotely eye visible would show. You''re either going to have to trust your dealer or view it yourself. the modern cushions have so much going on they mask inclusions like RBs do... but the antique ones won''t. Not if it''s truly like an OMC cut - not at that size. Mine is a 2.7 and you can see the facets very easily with the naked eye....

Hi, please make sure that you are absolutely certain what this vendors definition of eye clean is before you purchase - have that person verbalize exactly what eye clean means to him/her - Good luck!
