Any help is appreciated, attached are 3 certificates from a local jewerler. I''m not sure on which one to choose, they all look pretty much the same to me in person, except for by size. I''m no expert in this subject. The prices are as follows:

.96 EGL diamond $3100
.79 GIA diamond $2950
.91 GIA diamond $3300

Thanks,
John

The .79 is attached to this post.

Wasn't there the '79 cts attached a second ago ? I thought I saw 55% depth on the cert... now, that's a rare number ! A bit lower and you get a window through the stone - with diamonds, that's not usual at all (and for all the good reasons). Table next to 80% and you surely have all the space to see through the stone

The secret is that these flat stones look ok-ish on their own, just allot less brilliant than what is feasible among square step cuts.

If you ended up with three stones less than 65% deep with over 70% tables chances are you were looking for the largest pieces for some given weight and price range. That's exactly what these proportions are good at. You may be lucky to have found one with some just-so tweacked facets that may actually deliver decent brilliance. But that is impossible to know without seeing the things. If "seeing" is online, than Ideal Scope pictures are better than photos.

Just my 0.2, of course

The other GIA diamond is a bit less extreme, but the very large table is still there. EGL sounds pretty good though. There isn't any general standard to qualify these cuts, but some refferences exist. On top of this page is explained a reasonably popular one put up by AGA (see under Knowlede / fancy cuts).

Hope some of this helps.

all 3 are a bit out of square.
Your best bet is to use your eyeballs and look at them under as many lighting conditions as possible.
By the numbers I dont care for any of the 3 but the numbers dont tell the whole story when it comes to asschers.
