Where to set diamond in the halo?

I am in the process of trying to find a diamond to replace the moissanite in my halo (moissanite is beautiful but I just really want a diamond).

When I have the diamond set, I’m trying to decide whether to have it set just as this stone is, up a little higher. Or should I have it set to where it’s sitting in the halo with no gap? I’m leaving toward no gap even though it will make it a little harder to clean.

What are your thoughts/ advice? 63A56B3B-655B-4AF9-B8A6-D8CAE7124E1A.jpeg 0F6FAA4E-386D-4181-96B4-F954EC190AC5.jpeg D5EB3C4E-965C-412A-B406-76F741853214.jpeg 855E58A8-D2A0-4E34-B04C-44A4760DAB25.jpeg 8707C5F4-B7BD-4E4B-BC6A-1773FB3CD644.jpeg

I was looking at pictures on IG by VC and SK and others and they all seem to set the diamond all the way down in the halo which is why I was leaning toward that. I hadn't thought about something in between.. hmmm…

I would say 100% no gap! It looks much cleaner and more cohesive that way. When I see a gap it looks a little sloppy to me...

I most love the look where the surrounding halo hits a whisper below the girdle. It looks neatest, elegant and purposeful to my eye.

If you’re setting a new stone into an existing setting (unless I’m misunderstanding), you’ll be limited by what stones are available and how they fit to a degree though - I would imagine it’s unlikely to fit like a setting custom-designed around a stone.

I think this is how the stone that was in the setting before mine was as set and I know the exact measurements of that stone. I’m looking for one that is the same measurement and I am willing to be patient in order to find one.

personally i prefer no gap! i dont think setting too low would not compliment the size. in fact if the halo is set at an angel and with no gap, it would make the halo and the center stone look as one, visually bigger
