I have done some searches and I still need some help. I have been to a few places and so farJonathan at Good Old Gold was the most impressive. I am also looking into posibly dealing with Mark at Engagement Rings Direct. I only looked at H&A Round diamonds at GOG and actually put a deposit on two stones.(I have to get final approval from my GF but they are closed until the end of the month) Are the prices going to be that much different between the two? I have spoke with Mark on a few occasions, he seems like a straight foward guy but more of a business man than a jeweler(which he admitted) I am a newbie and maybe I am caught up in the H&A stones which are great, but is there anything else that I should be looking at. There is so much info on this forum it gets so confusing. I need help!!!!!!

Nrvus, there are as many different tastes and preferences as people. Only you can decide what is write for you. Some people like H&A and see a difference and appreciate the romantic fact, while other don''t care as long as the stone is sparkly.

You might try to look at H&A and compare them side by side to other stones both ideal and regular cut.

As for the vendor, you should deal with the one you are comfortable dealing with.

Good luck and let us know what you''ve got

Good Luck!

It is very tacky to take eyes from this site and redirect them to yours.

If you care to offer helpful information for diamond shoppers here, we would love to benefit from your experience.

If you are just here to steal eyeballs and direct them to your site so you can make a buck you are going to have a bumpy ride.

Jessica,
I recognize you are new here but self-promotion is not allowed, it''s in the forum rules you agreed to when you signed up.

Jessica,
Ok, here it is plain and simple, don''t self promote, ok??? Ya got to follow the rules. People have told you this time and again this evening and you are not listening.

Dear Nrvvous:

Well . . . I got kind of an education today, so let me try to help you. Here''s the way I see it.

The hearts and arrows, eight star, hearts on fire etc. type diamonds are truly beautiful. But - depending on the mouting your gf wants, you have to consider whether spending more money for a diamond that you can "see" has little or no leakage is like buying a Ferrari to drive around the neighborhood. I''m not saying buy a Kia, but isn''t a Mercedez or a BMW flashy enough?

We all want to show the one we love how nothing is too good for her. Including me. But let''s not spend money needlessly. I originally set out to buy my baby a 2 carat VVS1 or 2, colorless stone. Then I got a price quote and nearly choked!

A jeweler explained to me, "You have to think of buying a diamond as using one of those balancing scales, only it has four trays (symbolizing the 4Cs) instead of the typical 2. Start with your budget, and put more into one tray and less into another.

For example, I bought a diamond from a local retailer here in San Diego today. I decided to go down in clarity to SI1, so that I could afford to go up in color to D, while staying near the 2 carat size my GF wants and within the parameters of an Ideal cut. Why? Because when the jeweler put out a bunch of diamonds on a tray, ranging from D to J and from VVS1 to SI1, I could see color differences but not clarity differences.

Now some people would say I could have gone to a E, F, or G, and nobody would ever notice it after the stone is mounted. Well maybe so, but I get to tell my GF that I got her the whitest diamond made. People are more likely to notice the color than any inclusions - when was the last time you walked up to someone with a loop around your neck and said, "Let me see?"

Anyway, hope this was helpful. If you''re looking to buy online, it seems like more than just one person here likes the guy at, what is it, "Good old gold". Go for it!

Good luck.
