Can anyone give me advice on www.bluenile.com or www.modera.com? Are these good sites to buy a diamond?

Both Blue Nile and Mondera are extremely reputable companies. As with most diamond companies they offer a variety of proportions so be sure to obtain full details regarding the proportions of the diamonds you are considering before purchasing.

I bought my stone from Bluenile and was very happy with it. I was lucky that the stone I picked had the sarin numbers on the GIA report that is available online. If you do go with bluenile, be sure to ask for a sarin before you buy. With that said, I would also recommend you consider some of the companies that post on this site as well, like NiceIce, Good Old Gold, and Whiteflash, Dirt Cheap Diamonds, etc. They carry top notch merchandise at very competitive prices (possibly lower than Bluenile).

What does anybody think about the BlueNile Signature Diamond? Is it all that the website hypes it up to be?? I'm considering getting one, but does the AGS IDEAL 0 cuts make that much of a difference compared to a diamond that is an Ideal Cut with Excellent Polish & Symmetry?

"Signature Collection" is merely Blue Nile's way of advertising diamonds which they consider to be better than most... A diamond graded by the AGS Laboratory as having AGS Ideal 0 polish, symmetry and proportions, is essentially the same as a diamond graded by the GIA Laboratory as having Excellent polish and symmetry with zero ideal cut proportions (as determined by Sarin or OGI computerized proportions analysis) assuming that the diamonds are cut to zero equally... In other words, if they have comparable crown and pavilion angle measurements, total depth, table diameter, etc... Is that what you are asking?

Thanks Mr. NiceIce!

How can I obtain this Sarin report? How can I interpret this particular diamond I am interested in 0 proportions?

Here is the stone I am looking at:

2.01 carats, E VS1
Cut: Ideal
Depth %: 62.1%
Table %: 56 %
Polish: EX
Symmetry: EX
Girdle: thin - medium, faceted

There is almost a $3000 difference in price between this and the AGS Ideal 0 diamond that is Blue Nile's Signature diamond. What do you guys think?

Hello Looking -
Having recently purchased a 2.04 I can tell you that I found Blue Nile and Mondera to be priced a bit higher than Dirt Cheap Diamonds (which is where I purchased my stone). RE: how to get a Sarin - just ask. The dealer may tell you they have to get back to you - this is OK. They will get the results (no cost to you) and then put the info. into the cut advisor (top of this page) and see how it rates. The cut advisor is a starting off point when considering a stone. Just a research hint: I found the stone I thought I might like, looked at the cert., asked for the Sarin info and put it into the cut advisor as well as asked many on this forum for input (and they know their stuff). I noted the number on the GIA or AGS cert. and then I shopped the cert. and along w/ it the price. Many dealers work a database and offer the same stones as others - with some price variations. Dirt Cheap has a price match policy, as do some others, and it was a pleasure to work with Jim. He told me what he really thought of the stones I was considering. I was not at all disappointed w/ the stone. It turned out to be H&A which was an added bonus.

Best of luck -

Thanks Mara!!! I will definitely request that SARIN report and check out those other vendors.

Based on my search during the past 3-4 weeks, I found Bluenile and Mondera prices to be high, granted I was just comparing numbers from GIA certs. As many have already said, you must obtain results from Sarin analysis first. No Sarin analysis = no deal in my mind. I used these websites for gathering intel, every bit helps. Also, go to the other sites that were recommended, as they included information that other sites do not readily provide. I found Niceice VERY helpful.

Good luck!
