I would like to look for kite-like shaped diamond (it looks like emerald cut beauty in pear shaped figure). I only find it in an estate jeweler so far. Can I find it in internet as a loose stone (colorless grade)?
I am not sure I've ever seen a step cut pear... and I would call the cut below (this is a tourmaline) "lozenghe" or any version with inequal diagonals. Is this anywhere close to what you have in mind ?
There are two tiny colored diamonds of exactly this cut on list at ADIN, for example. The shape seems to be somewhat often used to take advatage of thin (?) fancy color rough.
You may wnat to read this (LINK) thread with pictures of proprietary diamond cuts. One of them (called the "Noble cut") is a kite proper with probably brilliant style facets. Another ( called "Virtue cut") is a step cut kite.
Then, if anything comes close to "step cut pear" this must be it. This stone (G-SI1, below 1ct) is being sold without a name, but it looks like one of the branded Royal Cuts (Link) to me.
I did not see any of these shapes being produced with any consistency, but they appear every now and then so probably you will have some luck contacting a seller directly with a specific request.
Hi, Valeria101, thank you so much for good information.
I think what I saw was smothing like a combination of Noble cut (there are 5 or 6 sides, not 4 sides, though -- top and/or bottom edge are cut off straight) and Virtue cut.
AM-Diamonds site is wonderful. I do not hear about them so often in this forum. What kind of reputation do they have, if you know?
Really no idea. I only know their site as a "database" of fancy cuts... there aren't too many.
And the only kite diamonds readily on display around here reside in a pair of earrings at Diamonds by Lauren. Those diamonds are not branded - as far as I know the shop.
Hope someone can help with AM
