I am thinking to buy a loose diamond, say from Vendor "A" and have it set by some where else, say vendor "B". The question is: Do I need to buy the insurance before I have vendor "A" send the stone for setting to vendor "B" or do I insure it after I get the finished item from vendor "B"? Thanks for your reply!

Most insurers will not insure a loose stone, only mounted. So, vendor "A" should ship to vendor "B" insured, after "B" puts it in setting, you get appraisal, from Appraisor "C", You select insurance co. "D", once insured you can give it to fiance "E". Hope that helps you, PS poster "F"!

That's cool! What if appraiser "C" finds a damage to the stone done by vendor "B" while setting? What is the procedure than?
