When I buy a diamond eng ring, how to I verify with the jeweler that it's the one I picked
and real? I match the inclusions w/ a microscope (vs1) and the original gia cert? :read:

(newbie, sorry!)
thanks and Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas everyone! :wavey:

There are plenty of professional appraisers who can help you with this and it's usually included as part of a full appraisal service, something that many people what to get for other reasons anyway. The way that WE do it is by looking at the details of the lab docs and comparing them with the details of the stone. This can include the inclusions, dimensions, fluorescence, proportions, girdle inscriptions, etc. Usually it's not really all that difficult if you've got a microscope and a micrometer at your disposal.

Thanks! So I guess I'll ask the jeweler to do this. I hate this bec I feel like I'm "accusing" the person of switchng the stone , u know? :wink2:

A sensible first step for a jeweler who is setting a stone that you bring in is to immediately and in your presence to inspect the stone and point out details exactly like your asking about. They don't want a fight at pickup time any more than you do and it makes people far more comfortable to show them exactly what to look for in recognizing their stone. This also skates past the possiblity of previous damage that may be present or the possibility that YOU are giving them something other than what's on the lab docs. It's not a matter of accusing anyone of anything. To quote Ronald Reagan. Trust, but verify.
