When do you think you'll be allowed to travel again? Will you ever travel again?

I was clicking around and ended up on the Aussie government Smart Traveller Facebook post.

Anyways there are a lot of optimistic people who have booked holidays etc and some are wondering if they should cancel etc

I don't think they are opening up borders for Australia anytime soon.

So I'm curious when do you think borders will open in your part of the world?

Would you travel ever again? Where would you feel safe to go?

I'm actually not that fussed about travelling. Broke!!! Again I'm more worried about the implications for the Australian economy. We will try to go on local holidays to support fellow Aussies.

Honestly, I probably won't travel unless there's a vaccine or the virus can no longer find new hosts, which is likely 1-2 years from now. When it is safe, I definitely plan on traveling again!

Well, I’ve been « stuck » in Europe since February and trying hard not to think about when I will be able to safely travel home to the States again. Obviously at some point I’ll have to, but let’s just say I’m dreading it. I’m in an at-risk group.

Don't know.
Don't care.

Everything has changed.
Simply surviving is #1 now.

All the Wha Wha Wha spoiled brats want everything back the way it was.
They're sure they're entitled to it.
They have a right to it.
They demand it, and hold up their stoopid guns.
Wha Wha Wha. :cry2:

But nature may have other ideas.

I think happiness in the future will belong to surviving humans who can best-adjust to whatever is to come.

So true. We don't know what will happen but if this virus or another wreaks havoc I think those that are happiest and most adaptable for survival will be those who are willing to bunker down and chew on tree roots!

I've never understood the desire to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. F scavenging or running from zombies, I'd put myself down!

That said, we'll be able to travel again someday, hoping for next summer since this year is pretty much done. We cancelled several trips already and are still waiting to see about Thanksgiving and Christmas... all those points are just sitting there taunting me. I booked all of 2020's trips by mid January before all this :roll2:

I am hoping to fly to Vancouver to visit my folks in February 2021, originally planned to fly out last week.

It could be postponed again as I really do not wish to fly unless I have to.

I aim to travel to France before the end is out in my campervan/RV with her own onboard facilities, as long as the quarantine requirements in UK and France are lifted by Q4 this year.

I am with you on the apocalypse! I have told the boys I am out if there is a post apocalyptic scenario! I am not chewing on tree roots and scavenging around, celebrating when I find some old lentils leftover from a supermarket that's been buried in rubble (HATE lentils!)

I wonder if people will go cruising again! We had a loooooot of cases from cruise ships over here! Our media was calling them floating petri dishes :lol-2:

I want the buffets to reopen someday! I weep at the idea of no buffet forever!

We can’t wait to travel again. We had to cancel 3 trips because of this so we are eager to make up for it when it’s safe to do so.

I definitely wouldn’t book anything now. At least here, travel insurance doesn’t cover anything booked after COVID was declared a pandemic.

We understand that it will probably be at least a year before we can book something else. Pandemics have happened before and they seem to follow a pattern. I hope it’s over sooner, but it looks like things will be up in the air for the next few years.

I am OK waiting for as long as we have to. Traveling is not on the list of things to do right now and we aren't missing it at all. TBT we haven't traveled much in the past decade anyway as we go back and forth between our homes and that is enough travel for me lol. This is one area I am A OK with waiting for as long as we need to without any impatience on my part.

Haha my DH and I have had this exact conversation. I am not one who wants to exist in a post apocalyptic world. I would not do well. In fact, before the pandemic my DH used to joke with me saying I wouldn't survive without my creature comforts. True dat.

We’ve also had 3 trips this year cancelled. We’re due to fly to visit DS in August, but doubt that travel restrictions will have been lifted before then. Also if it means we’ll have to quarantine for 14 days when we get home, then it’s a non starter.

We have another trip to visit DS in December, so we’ll have to see what the situation is then, because if there’s another outbreak in the winter, then of course we wouldn’t/couldn’t travel.

If that happens, then it’ll end up being a year since we saw DS :(

Well my trip to Europe got canceled. We were supposed to be leaving on Friday. So far, my trip to help my DD move to Chicago in July is postponed and praying it stays that way. Good news—I hear Vegas is opening next weekend and it’s only a 4-hour drive.... but even so, I’m a bit nervous about staying in a hotel and lingering in casinos—the whole Covid and air circulation thing still concerns me.

Back in Jan we booked an airBnB for 5wks this summer. We planned to drive as we are taking our dog so no worries about flying. It is a 12hr drive so not sure how I feel about the hotel stays the trip will require. Also can’t predict if our or their location will be in a spike at arrival or departure time. I want to go but am nervous.

I sure hope they cruise sooner than later, because we bought a *LOT* of Carnival stock when it was like $9/share.

As far as traveling, I’m hoping to book a girls’ trip to the Caribbean (flying/all-inclusive resort) once things calm down a bit and open back up (early spring, maybe). I’m thinking we’ll be able to get an amazing deal, and I’m here for it.

We had plans to go to the beach (Gulf) in July, but we never booked it... Covid-19 hit before we had the chance. No biggie. I didn’t want to spend the week with my SIL anyway. ;))

We will cruise again but not til, there is a vaccine and we don’t need to wear masks. Why spend vacation in a mask? Not my idea of fun.

@msop04 We were due to go to St Lucia and Barbados in March, had our flight cancelled the day before we were going, but had an email today from Sandals saying they’re reopening. They locked down when they had their first case brought in by a tourist so I think have had very few cases.

The new regulations being imposed by the Govt there, are that you are only allowed to travel to and from the hotel in an approved taxi, can not leave the hotel complex and go elsewhere to eat, all the tourist attractions are closed, and of course, must practice social distancing,

I want to travel again, both road trips and air travel, but for myself air travel is unlikely until at least 2022 ... I am hopeful I can do a west coast road trip perhaps in spring 2021 ... we'll see

I'm still on the fence about whether or not to renew my passport, ever. I need it even to go from Canada to the US, but I'm wondering if my feelings will ever change about not wanting to travel. Plus I feel like it will be several years until covid is handled completely.

I very much enjoy travel. Life is short & I want to explore beautiful places. But until it is safe to do so, I'm happy to stay put.

The company that we always book our 3 wk summer break through have been fabulous & have transferred our booking from Aug this year to Aug next, with no financial penalty. Extremely grateful for this, as it's a big chunk of downtime as a family, which in the ordinary world of work, school, husbands trips away etc, is really important to us. It also costs many ££££ so I'm thankful of their help.

In the meantime, I did manage to speak to the owners of a luxury Tree House lodge, which is in 9,000 acres of private parkland on their estate. We stayed over Easter last year & the girls loved it, mooching in the river fishing, running amongst sheep & deer, spending hours in the hot tub, exploring the 'old stuff' inside the families private chapel etc. They have been told they can provisionally open the tree house in July, so we've booked a week in August when we should have been abroad. It's extremely isolated & when we were there last year, we literally didn't get in the car once & with it being private, apart from the owner, who lives in a beautiful Stately Home on another part of the estate, we didn't see a soul. If for whatever reason they are not allowed us to stay, they will rebook us to another time.

We do a trip here in the UK like this every year, where there is no internet, phone signal & on one occasion, no electricity. It's wood burners, card games, log fired hot tubs & roasting marshmallows time. Don't need a plane for a slice of Heaven.

Hubs and I travel a lot, and it's killing us to have to cancel trip after trip this year. We have both had Covid already, and very luckily made it through ok, but he is a firefighter in NYC, so while I am able to safely work from home, and continue to have limited exposure to the outside world, his job requires him to have constant contact with people, as they have to respond to a lot of EMS calls.

All that to say, we may be on the front wave of travelers, since we have the antibodies, but we don't feel that wave is here yet.

our state is starting to open up...I made vacation plans back in January for the end of August, I intend to go, we always drive its about 10 hours, with that being said, I think I may change things up a tad and stay in the hotel a bit more and order out a little more than I normally do and I fully intend to take Lysol wipes and gloves and everything else needed to keep us as safe as possible.

For pleasure we almost exclusively travel in the winter so it's wait and see. I try and book around August but if our friends are in place will determine that, since we stay with them.

For work I almost had to fly out today but got it pushed, hopefully indefinitely but some things can't be done by distance.

I think it's a good idea to keep your passport up to date in case of any emergencies and last minute travel needs. Other than cost and some paperwork, no downside in renewing as you can still choose to not travel.

I'm sort of on the fence as to how this will affect my desire to travel. I am not desperate to go traveling any time soon but I do sometimes think how it would be sad if I never got to see some of the world. I don't have a passport. Have never even been to Canada (despite spending the first 19 years of my life 3 hours from the border) let alone any other country.

Honestly, my cats & dogs are more of a concern than the virus. I can imagine a time when things were well enough known that I could feel comfortable traveling. I can't imagine leaving the animals. Vegas for 3 days last summer was hard enough and that was with DH at home with the animals and sending me pictures/updates through the day. Kenneling them somewhere would be $$$$ and upset them terribly. (Rescues who have all been dumped in their lives.)

That is a lot of rambling to say I probably won't travel much for the foreseeable future but that isn't due to the virus as much as other issues.

I‘ve been fortunate to travel internationally 6 or 7 times and managed to cover all my bucket list cities. It’s the U.S. that I’m itching to see more of. I’d also like to hit the major antique jewelry shows in, I think, Miami, NY, and Vegas. But I’m not complaining. I’ll wait until cv is gone to get on a plane again.
