I didn't bring out the box of "specials" yet this year, but I did manage to get the bubble lights on the tree.

These are HUGELY important for DH, since he remembers marveling at them on his grandmother's tree when he was very little.

Show us or tell us about your favorite holiday decoration! Doesn't have to be Christmas, whatever holiday object that you have that is special to you. :appl:

Mushiness is allowed.

Please no sobbing.

(This is why my specials are put away, I can't deal with the memories just now).

I don't have one special one...but I have started a tradition. Every yr I get a new personalized family ornament

I don't really have anything special because I'm just building up my decoration and ornament collection. For the past couple years I didn't decorate at all because I wasn't home for Christmas (and I'm not into seasonal decorating), but this year I tried to get into it a little bit because we're hosting Christmas. We had ornaments, but I had to go out and buy a tree topper and some other decorations. Here are the things I bought that I really love. I also bought stocking holders (they look like the twig reindeer) but I don't have stockings :(( Next year that will be my mission!

A super cute little silver reindeer guy:

A beautiful mercury glass globe (that I put a fake tea light inside):

When my daughter was born I got a sterling ornament for that year, of a snowflake. Before we were released from the hospital there was an ice storm, so she was my ice storm baby. For my second child, I got a silver bell, so everytime it rings "an angel will get it's wings". They love to look at their ornaments every year.

On a lighter note, when I was either in grad school, I went with my MIL and SIL to Biltmore during the Christmas season. In the gift shop they had trees with all these beautiful ornaments. There was a sock monkey ornament (literally a small sock monkey with a ribbon hanger) that I really wanted, but didn't feel I could spend $8 on an ornament so I reluctantly left it. That Christmas I open a package and it was the sock monkey ornament! My MIL saw me looking at it and after I left the store she went back and got it. I don't know why, it really touched me.

My favorite decorations of all time were the Gurley Christmas candles my father inherited. I've always loved them. They're not mine, though. They stay with my mother. They're very old so I think some of them aren't in such good shape, at least that's what my mother told me when I asked her about them. I had this idea of remaking them, but I couldn't figure out 1. the intellectual property rights issues or 2. how you would do it.

My father also inherited bubble lights and lots of beautiful ornaments. I have nothing like my parents' collection.

These aren't what you mean, are they?

Even if they aren't, they are adorable. My grandparents had the caroling boy and girl! Time tripping just looking at these pics! :appl:

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. I love them!

Re: What's Your SPECIAL Ornament, Menorah, Holiday Decoratio

My father is Jewish, so when I was growing up I celebrated both holidays.

For my 2nd Christmas with my IL's, my MIL gave me a beautiful menorah. I'd always wanted one for myself, but I could never find the right one. She found the most beautiful one for our home and each year I love it more and more.

As far as ornament, we get some every year to reflect what happened in our lives or where we traveled. Those, as a collection, are precious to me.

P.S: I have the mercury glass balls, too. From Pottery Barn, right? I have mine stuffed with lights. LOVE THEM!
