Recently, I have re discovered a number of genres of music that I haven''t listened to for ages, and also found a whole bunch of new stuff I really like.
*Usually* I''m a total hip hop head, listening to artists like Jay Z, Lupe Fiasco, The Roots, MIA, NERD (etc).

But for months now I''ve been really into more "indi" groups like Vampire Weekend, Architecture in Helsinki, Arctic Monkeys, MGMT, The Killers etc.
We were also listening the other night to Rage Against The Machine and marvelling at how good they were.

So, whats your favourite type of music or fave album at the moment?
Have you ever forgotten about/dismissed a genre only to fall for it again? Are your musical tastes now very different to when you were younger, or just the same?

If the artist is one others may not know of (and you feel like it), please post links !

Zeppelin. It pretty much always is Zeppelin, and probably always will be.
I do listen to a lot of other things, but Zeppelin is ALWAYS a good choice!

ha ha! I love your no nonsense answer Tuckins !

Well, right now I''m doing a walk down memory lane and listening to Face Value by Phil Collins. It came out in ''81 and for me it epitomizes my college years - like my entire time in college distilled to one album. I''m also visiting The Soul Cages by Sting. That man''s lyrics just NEVER get old...

And Dmitri Hvrovstovsky...Old Russian Romances. Lord God Almighty, but that boy can SING. (opera lover here)

I love Anna Nalick, her music has a very "true" undertone, she gets it...and her songs speak to me really well.

I love Britney Spears, yeah yeah yeah--I know. But her new album is amazing.

Sarah McLachlan is always a favorite for me...her new Greatest Hits album is pretty fantastic, plus it has two new songs to get excited about!!

Ok. Don''t shoot me. Britney Spears.

BUT TO EXCUSE MYSELF I DO A LOT OF RUNNING AND NEED MINDLESS TECHNO BEATS, TO TUNE OUT THE FACT THAT I AM RUNNING 30-45 Miles a week!

Lately I''ve been really into an Estonian singer named Kerli. Her album Love is Dead is really great - kind of dark, ethereal, pop music. If that even makes sense.

I''m all over the board with music - I love techno, pop (I too *love* Britney!), rock, opera, classical, hip hop. About the only genres I''m not really huge into are jazz & country. I love the music from Bollywood movies too!

I also always love classic rock & blues, I think because that''s what my dad always listened to when I was growing up. I love Zepplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, old Aerosmith & stuff like John Lee Hooker, John Mayall & Bluesbreakers, Robert Johnson, & Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Listening to the Moody Blues right now, their Seventh Sojourn album. "New Horizons" is my all-time favorite song, and it''s on this album

I don''t think its any surprise to most that my favorite album right now is El Cantante...by Marc Anthony LOL. I just love him and that particular CD is fantastic. He did a remake of all of Hector Lavoe''s old songs that I grew up listening to my dad and brothers sing to. He did such a great job with the remake too.

I''ve also been listening to the Beetles a lot mostly because FI is a musician and he''s been using their old albums (records to be exact

) for inspiration so its on all day.

Kings of Leon, Only by the Night is my current favorite album.

Love the Kings!

I''m also loving Sage Francis these days, by himself or with Non-Prophets. He''s brilliant.

The Mars Volta and Interpol...love them both lately!

Also, lately been listening to a lot of Bob Marley (makes me happy) and Jimi Hendrix. FI is a musician so when we''re home I will hear anything from Classic Rock, to Metal, to Classical, to Old School Hip/Hop...etc.

Right now I''m really enjoying David Cook and coldplay. Viva la Vida is an awesome album!

I love the Artic Monkeys and Killers too AJ; they are on my ipod! I love the Rakes and Bloc Party.

The Killers are indie? They seem pretty mainstream to me!

Most of what I listen to ends up being from my friends. I get a lot more out of it that way, I guess! So I listen to a lot of The Rescues, Sara Bareilles, Kyler England, Gabriel Mann, Katy Perry and Jubala.

Other stand-by favorites are Brooke Fraser, Brandon Heath (they're both from christian rock backgrounds, but that's not the stuff I listen to of theirs), Frou Frou, Erin McCarley, Joshua Radin and Paramore (this is my husband's influence).

Ha ha, that''s the best song on there, and "Use Somebody" is a close second, imo!

I''m currently stuck on the following three artists:

M.I.A. - I saw her in concert and it was AMAZING! I love the song Sunshowers, Jimmy, and you guys might know Paper Planes. I didn''t really like her at first, ,and now I jam out while doing the dishes to her
Coconut Records- Jason Schwartzmann, an actor, is the main singer and i LOVE their mellow sound - try Thanks I Get and West Coast
AND
Just Jack- It''s sort of like British dance music- good songs are Writer''s Block and Starz in Their Eyes

I''m always switching music though- ask me next month and it will be totally different!

hmm...I''m totally lazy about music and tend to end up liking whatever is on the radio (though I really don''t go in for super whiny music - I tend to prefer stuff that is more upbeat). Right this instant, my favorite song is probably Nickelback''s "Gotta be Somebody" but that will probably change in two weeks

Currently listening to an old favourite.. Itzhak Perlman's Cinema Serenade.

I love Frou Frou! Mr. L and I also like Imogen Heap, Jem, & Juliet a lot too - all kind of similar sounds/vibes.

Beyonce''s new Album is pretty great!

Right now I''m enjoying Taylor Swift''s new cd immensely. Also Sugarland''s new album and I found a new artist I like named Jack Johnson... he''s kindof a soft rock bluesy type. Beachy is what I call him. I''m enjoying a lot of the newer stuff out. TI, Pink, and Christina aguilera area at the top.

My most played albums at present are:

Scars on Broadway, by Scars on Broadway
Venus Doom by HIM

Other artists I play a lot right now are Rise Against, The Used, Paramore, System of a Down, Deftones, IAMX, MCR, Super Furry Animals, Serj Tankien, Jeff Buckley, Mindless Self Indulgence etc etc.

I really only listen to old music. I have heard of maybe four artists in this whole thread so far. My favorites:

The White Album
Abbey Road
Revolver
Rubber Soul
Sgt Pepper

Never, ever, ever, ever grow tired of them. I loved George the most and am a Wilburys fan.

I''ve been listening to an old, live recording of Neil Young obsessively lately. I''m sure DH is sick of it, he probably shouldn''t have let me borrow it.

I''ve had Chicago XVII in my CD player for about the last 2 weeks. Prima Donna - probably one of the best overlooked songs ever, IMO.

That, and You''re The Inspiration was our recessional song in our wedding, so I get a bit teary every time I hear it.

I went through a BIG Imogen Heap phase during college, but my husband''s roommate at the time was way too obsessed and that''s all I heard while I was there... so I''m sick of every song on her album (talking about the newer one, I''m not into her older stuff)! Stupid roommate.
