i *love* sandwiches and will have them most days for lunch if it's convenient.

i have a few favorites...

salad on whole grain; lightly buttered whole grain with lettuce, sliced cucumber, grated carrot, thinly sliced onion, tomato, sliced beets, avocado and salt and pepper. pile it on high!

sweet curried chicken with raisins and snow pea sprouts on white bread (FRESH white bread!)

left over roast lamb with sliced onion, tomato slices and mint jelly

and the one i had today...

cold fillet of salmon flaked onto whole grain with sliced onion and tomato with mayo, salt and pepper.

what are your favorites? is anybody else out there a sambo junkie like me?

hit me with your best recipes!

Mmm...love sandwiches. Anything with melted cheese!

No recipes here though.

Anything that anyone is willing to make me

My favorite lately has been Pesto Turkey (Ciabatta bread, pesto, turkey, tomato, cucumber, and cheddar cheese) mmmm.

But, I also like the standard PB&J :D

OMG! My absolute favorite is a slice of Texas Toast, cut in half while still frozen, then cooked panini style with grilled chicken, monterey jack cheese, and sauteed spinach!

Sounds horribly unhealthy, but one slice of texas toast is not usually worse than two slice of bread (Texas toast is about 120 calories) It rocks my socks, but FI always gives me the stink eye if I make it... bad breath and not super healthy.

I also love a turkey swiss sandwhich on a whole grain bagel! Mmmm....

ETA: ditto Swedish on anything including Pesto!!!!

I can't stand a sandwich with onions ...blech

Sorry, Whitby!

I love:

- Regular canned tuna sandwich with celery and red peppers.
- Grilled chicken with sun-dried tomato pesto spread on focacia
- Baguette with goat cheese and grilled portabello mushrooms and roasted red peppers.

YUM. I loves me some sandwiches!

I love grilled cheese, although I''ve ''grown-up'' from the white bread plus american cheese versions my mom used to make us! I use 12-grain wheat now, sharp cheddar, lorraine swiss, and sliced tomato instead, and slice lengthwise into thirds instead of quarters or halves. I like to dip into brown mustard and alternatively, tomato soup. Oh. god. heaven. I just had one last night.

For a "cold" sandwich, I like 12-grain with roasted red pepper hummus, sprouts, avocado slices, super thin sliced red onion, tomato, provolone, cucumbers, and GET READY....potato chips. Kettle-cooked, super crunchy potato chips, INSIDE the sandwich. You can''t over-indulge on the chips when you only have so much bread space. Sliced in half, please. Possibly a dill spear on the side, but that doesn''t happen often because typically I finish a jar of pickles before the bread and sandwich fillings run out.

honey and butter on white

so bad for me

I have two:

I can''t remember the name of the deli but:
It was a Panini with portabella mushrooms, roasted red peppers, balsamic, and provolone. YUM!

I also enjoy pepper turkey breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, some mayo, on wheat toast. Also YUM!

I like BLTs with mayo and mustard on sourdough (indulgently spread with butter after being toasted) and PBJs with strawberry or raspberry jam on white or wheat bread.

I apparently like acronym sandwiches lol

ETA - two more... warmed meatloaf with catsup on wheat and leftover corned beef from st patty's day with swiss on rye!

The day after thanksgiving sammy made on a left over roll with sweet potato soufflette smeared on both pieces of bread, then a layer of turkey then a layer of home made cranberry. I eat it for days after.

Get a small loaf of fresh french bread and slice it in half.

On one half pour a zigzag of olive oil, on the other half zigzag with balsamic vinegar.

Add sliced tomato, fresh basil leaves, and a freshly sliced ball of mozzarella. Bake until cheese is gooey and chow down.

Best. Sandwich. Ever.

Jimmy John''s vegetarian. nom nom nom. Or the Big John.

Whitby, have you seen that "Best Sandwiches" show on PBS? They go all over the US finding the best sandwiches in different regions? It is a killer! I''ve seen it a couple of times and still have to watch it every time I stumble across it.

At home, I like weird things. Like I really like to do a Boca chicken patty and baste it with BBQ sauce mixed to taste with a few dashes of hot sauce. Then I stick it on a toated multigrain english muffin and top with a few crumbles of blue cheese. Delish. I also like a Boca burger topped with some cheese, a couple slices of salami or bacon, also on a toasted english muffin. I''m not a vegetarian (if you couldn''t tell by the salami and bacon), but really like Boca products.

I also love, love, love a fried egg sandwich. I mean, it''s sad how much I love them really. That with a couple slices of crisp, thick cut bacon or salami and some good pepper jack cheese.... Oh my.

Another favorite is a BLT with chipotle mayo for a little kick. It''s also fun to trade out regular tomato for fried green tomatoes. But I really only like these in summer when tomatoes are in season.

Another sandwich lover
18.gif

Warm: Grilled Whole wheat bread brushed lightly with mayo mix [garlic, lemon, mayo] and filled with grilled [or roasted] yellow peppers [or red] zucchini, red onion and sprinkled with feta cheese.
Cold: Romaine, turkey, provolone, turkey pepperoni, avocado and tomato with little mayo rolled up in cone bread, white or wheat.

BLT...bacon, lettuce, tomato with mayo. Yum!!

Turkey club. Sadly I am very allergic to turkey so I have to eat PBJ''s which aren''t bad either.

Marcy-you should try to get the Tofurky sliced fake turkey. It''s really good and you can''t tell the difference once it''s in a sandwich with bread, mayo, etc. My favorite is the Peppered flavor. Tofurky deli slices

I do eat meat but my favorite sandwich is from a local vegetarian restaurant, actually. It''s a tempeh reuben and it is SO DELICIOUS. Grilled tempeh, sauerkraut, thousand island and cheese on rye bread. YUM!

monarch, I love your "cold" sandwich. Sounds like something I''d come up with!

Oh Whitby, you reminded me of the wonderful salad sandwiches I''ve had in the UK.

now your singing my song!I love a good sandwich and cup of home made soup. I love a good roast beef with Swiss on whole wheat, hot ham and cheese, tuna salad with dill pickle, cheese, celery, olives, cucumber, pepper, peanuts and carats(okay..carrots)...a grilled cheese(whole wheat or sour dough and Swiss)A baked CHICKEN BREAST that marinated in a good salad dressing before cooking, sliced and put on a roll is great with cucumber and Swiss! Also a good old fashion peanut butter with strawberry jam on white is great with potato chips and milk!

Wait- my favorite is my brother''s homemade kielbasa( my mom''s recipe) on rye with mustard.

Me and my mom had open faced crab sandwiches the other day at California Cafe. I couldn't tell you what was on them but boy were they yummy!

I'm a fan of anything that involves sun dried tomato basil turkey
18.gif

Also back when we were dating, DH took me on a picnic and make sandwiches with meunster cheese, oven roasted turkey, and mayo and mustard combined. This was the first time I ever had anything with mayo and mustard combined on it and am now a faithful addict. Goes on EVERY sandwich I make lol Oh and if there's no mayo, miracle whip will do

Peanut butter (preferably crunchy) and pickle (preferably bread & butter).

I''m serious.

And no, it''s not gross.

I''ve been eating them since I was a little kid- introduced to me by my uncle. If you google the combo you''ll find that quite a few others eat them, many with mustard (Yuck.) I probably eat one a week. Sometimes I just slather peanut butter on a pickle spear.

Don''t judge!

Oh these are GOOOOOOOOD!

If you said pesto, I love your sandwich!

Ditto melted cheese

Ditto anything Italian

Kama I forgive your anti onion stance – but only because of your fabulous goats cheese baguette!

PinkAsscher, what a great idea for a sandwich – salad caprese on bread! Yummmmmmmm!

indypitty, what on earth is ‘the Big John’??

yssie, I hear you on the butter and honey! But it’s only bad if you have half a dozen of them. And these days every second thing you can buy is far worse for you than a slice of bread with honey on it!

April, I haven’t seen that show, but you’re right – it’d be exactly the sort of thing I’d enjoy! I'll keep an eye out for it. Now pls explain what Boca is except for a city in Florida…

lulu, my mother used to go and do the shopping every Saturday morning. While out, we had a salad sandwich like I described every Saturday lunchtime. It was delicious and started a love affair with salad sandwiches which has yet to abate! And yes – absolutely – England is *the* place for salad sandwiches!

Smurfy! Seafood sandwiches! YUM!! And ditto everything you said re mustard and mayo, tho I draw the line at Miracle Whip…

Not being American, I can’t say I’m a fan of PB&J’s.

And PilsnPinkysMom, you seem like a very nice woman. But there is no excuse for PB&P.

Monarch, we are the same sandwich person:-)

Corned Beef on Rye from a good Jewish Deli! Yum!

Mashed egg on white bread, with a touch of salt, just like my Mum makes. Yumm!!!!

toasted plain bagel with smoked salmon and avocado... damn, this is making me hungry

The first time I visited NY we went to Dean and Deluca and I had this amazing sandwich, I can''t remember all the ingredients but it had ham, apple and brie on it! AMAZING!

I also really like avocado, cheese and mayo (has to be toasted) on brown bread

Oh and leftover turkey and stuffing sandwhiches on white bread on Christmas!
