I''ve been looking for price ranges on my upcoming purchase of a Emerald Cut for my new setting. I went onto Whiteflash and many of the prices are similar to what I''m finding in the local LAJD. Then I came across this diamond...what am I missing that the cost is SO much lower??

Item Code: 1735738
Price: $4,841.00
Report: GIA
Shape: Emerald
Carat: 1.19
Color: F
Clarity: VS1
Depth: 70
Table: 68
Girdle: M-STK
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Culet: None
Fluorescence: No
Measurements: 8.26-4.66X3.28
Length/Width: 1.77

Any feedback would be great...thanks in advance!

It''s on the deep (total depth) and long (length:width) end of the spectrum for my taste. But one would have to look at it in person to decide for yourself.

You can be sure that if the price is substantially out of "whack" with what you would expect - there IS a reason!

Thanks for the feedback...I guess when push comes to shove you just have to look at the stone in person and determine if it''s the shape you''re looking for!!!

If this is the case, how does anyone purchase an online diamond when you''re not able to see the actual stone until it arrives on your doorstep!?

Whiteflash can take pictures for you. Perhaps that could help.

Thanks for that feedback!!! Didn''t know that!!

Any vendor worth their salt should provide you with a complete, objective gemological analysis of the stone including pics via email.

Also, you should be able to have the stone sent to an independent appraiser prior to paying for the stone.

Finally, once you receive the stone, you should be able to return it after a few days examination for a full refund if you are not happy.

Is this including online vendors? Just so I understand you correctly, an online vendor will send you a diamond without payment to allow inspection/appraisal of the stone? Sorry for my skeptism, but I''m finding this difficult to believe. I know when I go to the LAJD the vendor will allow me to walk down the street to get an appraisal, but to send a diamond thousands of miles away?? Hmmmm....help me out here...

We will send the stone to an independant appraiser for you, you pay the postage and insurance both ways and the cost of the appraisal. If you buy the stone we subtract the cost of the postage from the amount you owe us, and as soon as we have valid funds in the bank, we instruct the appraiser to release the stone to you. Others do it very similarly.
