Hello everyone!

my boyfriend and i are in the process of looking at engagement rings. I am pretty picky and I know what I like for sure. I have fallen in love with the Scott kay luninaire collection. I love the round center stone with a cushion double halo. The only thing that I don't like about the scott kay ring (shown below) is that, both in store and in pictures, I feel like the stones in the halo lack definition. I would like to be able to tell that there are tiny individual diamonds in my halo setting (without large gaps, metal showing, ect) while still keeping the sparkle factor. I was thinking that maybe it was the size of the pointers in the halo? Or maybe just the way the setting is designed? Any guidance with pictures would be Much appreciated!! I have attached some examples of stones that are "defined" in the halo below.

The melee (tiny diamonds) in the Scott Kay halo may not be as good of quality and the metalwork may be too bulky too. Are you going to have a hand in choosing your diamond and setting or is he wanting to take the reigns on the process?

I just purchased a single halo (not Scott Kay), so I know exactly what you're talking about. I love the way that the halo/double halo looks, but didn't like the fact that the individual diamonds in the halo had no definition. I ultimately decided on a Y-Z color center stone...I do love the yellow diamond, but also liked the way that the halo was more obvious with a yellow diamond.

This doesn't really solve your problem of course (sorry)...but my solution was to go a different direction with a colored diamond. Maybe consider a colored halo/diamond?

There are a couple vendors who do nice Pave' work. You can try Engagement Rings Direct or Victor Canera has one on his site do a search for Soleste designs (this looks a lot like the Tiffancy Soleste) on the pricescope search engine.

I absolutely have an input on everything about the ring selection. So any help is definitely appreciated! :)

The reason the Scott Kay ring has spaces and isn't very sparkly is most likely because it was cast in less than ideal quality and has lower quality diamonds. I do not know the cost of this ring but generally the big brand jewelry stores have a large markup on their products and you can find better quality and better pricing when you shop online. You might want to look into having a similar custom ring made for around the same cost using pricescope vendors. Even if it costs a little more to have a custom ring, you may find that it's worth it to have a ring that you really love that is made well. You will be wearing it for a long time, after all. :)) Some vendors to consider, depending on your budget:

Steven Kirsch
Leon Mege
Victor Canera
Engagement Rings Direct
CVB Designs
Good Old Gold

If you want to see the individual stones more individually, you'll need to use larger stones and/or more spacing. A custom ring can accomplish this.

There's a wide variety of melee out there; using low-quality stones will impair the look of the ring.

Thank you all for your replies!! So this that scott kay setting is nearly $4,500 at our local jewelers alone. In your experience, would going custom be in the same price range (esp considering what I want)?

Anyone have some input??

If you cannot afford to go custom with the names provided you can always go to any other jeweler stay away from the stores like Zales, Jareds, etc...
These stores don't have very nice settings. I have seen their settings and didn't like them at all for the price they are asking is crazy.
I got mine done at Kent Jewelers in the diamond district. ID Jewelry is another PS vendor who can work with your budget and make a beautiful halo setting similar to tiffany soleste which looks like what you are looking for.
ID Jewelry has some beautiful settings I am looking at for my upgrade and they can work with your budget whatever it is.

You definitely do not want cheap pave. I think you'll be able to get a quote from Engagement Rings Direct or Maytal Hannah that might come in close to the SK price and have a much nicer result. I just think the stones were a bit too tiny in the SK.

I think Victor Canera would be a little higher because his work is totally handforged. But it might be worth paying a little extra if it was not too over budget.
