What's the best way to clean my ring?

I have a princess cut diamond solitaire, set in platinum. I would like to keep it as clean as possible at all times, but I'm not really sure how to go about cleaning it myself. I don't want to get one of those vibrating cleaners, because I'm very concerned about it making my stone come loose over time. I also worry about using a toothbrush for the same reason (I've heard that it can loosen the prongs a bit).

Is there a solution that I can make at home, and just soak it for awhile? I've heard of using Windex, but I really don't want to do anything that might damage my ring.

Honestly, the best way to keep it clean is by buying and using an ultrasonic cleaner. If the stones become loose then it's up to you to take the manufacturer to task. They all use ultrasonic cleaners at many stages during the production of the piece, and if it survives their tests, the stones should remain tight. Loose stones aren't your problem, they are the manufacturer's. Loose stones are a failure, nothing less, and need to be regarded as such.
If the vendor tells you not to use an ultrasonic cleaner, they are telling you the ring shouldn't be worn, either. The stresses of daily wear exceed any that could be administered by an ultrasonic.
Don't fear the toothbrush, for the same but more obvious reasons.

I'm so glad you asked this because I wondered the same thing and came to post about it today. I hope you don't mind me aksing a few more questions.

I have an ultra sonic machine, but are some better than others? Do you have recommendations for the best ones? What about steam cleaners? It seems like a lot of jewelry stores use those?

if the ultrasonic caused you to lose a stone- than it was probably a workmanship issue. Many jewlers will fix this for you.

You should definitely not worry about your main princess stone coming loose. I go monthly and have my prongs checked to make sure that it is tight and safe. I done think you should have an issue with your stone coming loose, just take care when doing other activities and not wear if you are banging around.
