Hello,

I am looking for some help here. I took my girlfriend over to Helzberg Jewelers today and she fell in love with this ring:

Here

Can you tell me if the price of $4400 is good for this ring? I think it seems high. Where else can I find a similar ring with channel stones on three sides? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

The setting is lovely but I don't like that you could be getting an I1 center stone. I think that the price is a little high for the quality.

Warren Buffet is not the 2nd richest guy in the world for not making money on the companies he owns. Because there is a chance you could get the center stone that is H SI2 or the J I1 the price could be not bad or not good. You may also look at the way the small diamonds are set, we have repaired this style and some are set with cheater beads rather than channel set. You will be able to see the little beads of metal against the wall of the channel and the diamond. Yes it can be made for less money, but if you go for that one, see if there is more than one and select the best one. Or see if there is more than one of those stores in your area and look at a couple. If you are doing it on line, take it to an appraiser.

I don't mean to be rude but I think you could do a lot better for your $4,400+ with one of the reputable online vendors vs that particular store/company. And I say this as someone who hasn't bought from any online vendor here--I have a local B&M guy I can trust for quality & value--so I am not pushing any agenda... I suggest you look around...

Prices jump by thousands between color grades and SI2 to I1--do a search here and note the pricing at I1 vs SI1-2, I color, versus J...even if it looks great, I'd want to know exactly what i am getting--and paying for. If she is totally set on that ring and nothing else will do, definitely follow the independent appraisal advice.

Do some more legwork..it'll pay off in both economy and quality. Good luck.

the price of the ring is defintely a little too high. something like that should be about $3000 at max (at that price, i'm overpricing already)

if you need help in finding a ring like that, let me know

That's an interesting setting, I can certainly see how it caught her eye!

Like Scott said, I would just be very cautious in choosing a well-made ring--don't want all those little bitty diamonds falling out!!

I do think you could do better with one of the vendors here, even if you had the setting custom-made.

I really don't like that color, and especially clarity range, for the center stone. In a princess in particular, I'd be hesitant to go that low in clarity.

I suspect other vendors -both listed here on pricescope, or small independent jewelers in your area- could closely replicate that setting, probably in a better quality, and you could get a much nicer center stone for the same money or even less. Here's a quick search I ran based on the specs for the center stone listed at Helzberg, to give you an idea...

It is a pretty ring, however, like others' responses, I don't like the wide color and clarity range of the center diamond. There is a big difference between a H S2 and a J I1. Also to consider, the cut of the princess stone. If the proportions are off in cut, the stone will not have much life.

Q, thanks for pulling stone examples...after seeing that, my position is NO WAY.
