If you had a 1.60 OMC, J, VS which setting would you choose?

Would you go Leon Solitaire with double claw prong in plat?
(a la Snoopers GORGEOUS antique cushion. Thank you, by the way, for the inspiration.)

OR

Would you choose a James Meyer bezel in plat?
(Inspired by Coatimundi's GORGEOUS ring? Also, thank you for the inspiration.)

Thanks a million.

Gosh, talk about a tough choice!!

I''d probably go with a setting like Coati''s......that ring is stunning in its simplicity.

I agree, that''s a toughie!! I think the Leon would just nudge out for me!

How hard are you on your rings? A bezel might be a good choice simply from the perspective of protecting the stone (though it''s a tough choice - Snooper''s LM is DREAMY too!)

Alternately, how is the symmetry of your OMC? Something to keep in mind with a bezel setting is that OMC''s can be slightly off round (versus Coati''s modern RB) so your bezel may take a more cushiony shape (or will follow whatever is the shape of your stone).

Either one will be stunning!

haha!--well I love JM, but let us not forget Single Stone--love their settings. Snooper's is gorgeous too!

...and we need pics of the stone!

JM! I have totally drooled over them for my antique rock too. If your stone, like lots of antique stones, has a thin or x thin girdle, that''s a good reason to bezel. Also the JM look is so incredibly unique, which tends to draw me more than a classic solitaire. That''s my taste of course... tough choice you have! At least whatever you get, it''ll be beautiful.

Well, I don''t have the stone yet...I *think* my SO does. I was asked by my SO the other night which of the two I prefer and I told him I love both! Of course, I got yelled at (well more like rolled his eyes at) for being indecisive. I''m a tall gal (5''11) and have size 6.5 - 7 fingers. I think the size he chose is a great size.

Ericad: I am not exactly rough on my jewelry, but I''m not dainty either. I can be clumsy. The off roundness in a bezel will not bother me; actually that is what draws me to those types of stones. Will a bezel still allow the stone to sing as much as exposed prongs do?
Coati: Thank you again for allowing us to view your ring as inspiration. It is truly a beautiful and unique piece that I just love. And you''re right; I should check single stone as well, although that may just add one more to the indecisive mix.

Thank you SO SO much for your responses. Which ever I end up with I will be sure to share. For right now, I know nothing and I think SO intends to keep it that way. Who knows, he may be around here somewhere.

Absolutely - I recently reset my cushion from a prong setting into a full bezel, and it looks wonderful! Mine is an M, but the bezel blocks most of the side tint so the stone appears several grades whiter than it did in the former setting. It also took on its own wonderful shape in the bezel. When prong set, it looked round. But in the bezel (my instructions were to follow the natural shape of the stone) it's now a nice soft cushion shape.

Personally, I will never wear a prong setting again - I'm a bezel gal through and through. I love that my stone is protected, I can be my klutzy self, I can wear it all the time without having to baby it too much, etc.

Everyone has given good advice. Also, I am klutzy and even with insurance, to me the old stone is irreplaceable so I''d want to protect that girdle as much as possible. So no prongs for me.

Excellent advice! Thank you so so much. I will be sure to pass it on to my SO what my heart was feeling all along. Erica, thank you. The ring in your avatar is to die for!!! Chrono, I too can be clumsy and yes, I agree, an antique store is irreplaceable. Thanks again, Coati, for allowing your ring to inspire so many other JM beauties....including hopefully mine.

Check this thread out. Lots of pictures on page 3 I think ...

THAT is what I''d do. In a heartbeat. That''s by far my fave OMC setting job EVAHHHHHHH.

The JM style bezel gets my vote.

Decodelighted: Thank you! Wow!! That is SOME ring!

Gorgeous. I was also thinking of pave for the band, but honestly, I am not always the kindest to my jewelry. I''m not by any means saying I''m extremely tough on the jewelry I do wear, but I would be afraid of knocking out those little stones. I do love that basket though. YUM.
