So i have this pair of pear-shaped jackets which are a wee bit too small and am thinking of either returning them to the same seller and get an upgrade with them or sell them back to the vendor for 70% of the original price (i'd be ok with the latter, if doing so would give me more freedom to do what I wish with the money).

I also have a pair 1ct each studs which I hardly wear. They don't match either, the cuts are different and one is abt 0.30mm larger than the other. One of them is my original ering which I'm thinking of asking Brian Gavin to recut since although it holds sentimental value, it's not of a great cut. I could have it reset into a pave'd pendant. The other I could sell for about $6-7k (I've already enquired about selling it).

I'd end up with about $10-12k. I was wondering what I'd do with it. I could get a larger D coloured diamond with strong blue fluor, which is what I've wanted for a long time (and would prob have to top up a few thousand more dollars, which I could), and have it set as a pendant. OR I could have the funds put aside for future purposes, for eg. to put towardds the upgrade of my current 3.02ct ering to a larger stone, ideally a 5ct F-G colour, VS clarity (which of course would require a lot more funds, but it could theoretically happen in abt a year's time).

There are also other options of course. Would love to hear what you'd do, PS'ers.

Hey P!

What a nice dilemma....I would probably put the money towards the upgrade.

How many pendants do you already own? I ask because you plan to have the sentimental diamond set as a pave and then possibly the new D you would buy as another. . .how often would you wear each (especially if you possibly have more to choose from)? If you''re selling diamonds as a way to purchase new ones, I''d be sure you''ll wear the new stuff! Personally, I''d save the funds for an upgrade.

Buy something you'll never want to upgrade.
You loose money every time you sell.

Even if you buy from a seller with a good upgrade policy you will be paying future prices for that upgrade diamond while they only "pay" you the old price for your trade in.
Usually diamonds go up in value, especially the nicer larger ones.

You have to decide which you'd be less likely to upgrade someday, that D or that 5 ct.

Thank you, Lorelei, MC and Moh, for your quick responses.

It's really great to hear others' opinions, too, even if you yourself kind of know what it is you'd like to do. It's def a reassurance.

I've emailed Lesley to see if she could help with the upgrade to the 5ct.

Moh, you've made really good point, it'd be very unlikely that I'd want to upgrade the 5ct as I can't see myself wearing a larger RB (just like I *know* that I would never ever upgrade my BGD earrings, unless to a higher colour that is

).

MC, I've been on a quest to "get rid" (for lack of a better word) my smaller diamonds as I've found that I have a penchant for larger bling!

. I only have one other, a cluster 3-diamond pendant, which again I don't wear because it's a wee bit small. I did have a couple of others but have since put them on consignment with Pearlmans.

Yeah, saving the funds for the upgrade to the 5ct makes sense, since this is what I've been yearning for forever!

i would get two round brilliants (about 6,000 each) and set in micropave hanging baskets --your ring is pretty big--if it wasnt so big i wouuld say use for an upgrade

I certainly could wait a little longer for the 5ct!!!

I would also use the money towards the upgrade to 5ct.

yep agree with others.. wait it out,, the year will fly by...

send it to DF !!
