beginning your professional career? Just curious. . .

In another thread, an amethyst pendant caught my eye and I thought hmmmm. . .

A Car!

Seriously, I was in a pretty bad car accident my first week! So I decided to get the brightest thing possible...a bright yellow jeep wrangler! So I used a lot of my savings, and money from the accident for that because I thought it was safer than my neon. I guess it was too... because I didn''t get in 1 accident or even minor- fender bender in it! Trust me... it was on a lift... so it was HIGHLY visible... exactly what I wanted!

Omg... apparantly I should have spent time on my literacy- and notice that the thread title was JEWELRY purchase... not just first... sorry... my first major jewelry purchase was a pair of cushion cut garnet earrings and a matching pendant set in 18k yellow gold. Looking back, I am pretty sure I was had... $320 for the set. Oh well, you live and you learn to look for sales!

Actually, that is a great answer. Possibly I should have left out jewelry as many mark the mile stone with a new car or other fun stuff. Safe transporation is always more important than another diamond - or at least that''s what my husband proved to me when he bought me a new car instead of a diamond upgrade (and we soon discovered the SUV I previously had was about to keel over)! lol

I bought some small diamond studs. I felt very proud

Of course, I haven''t *technically* started working yet, but I got the job offer (and signed and sent off all the acceptance stuff) and have a start date on the books, so I figure that counts

I haven''t made mine yet ... but I''m turning 30 in a month and change, so I''m looking forward to it! I''m thinking either a pair of the WF RSG martini studs, or possibly some glorious bargain will cross my horizon and I''ll be unable to resist temptation.

Ooh Circe - WF studs are so yummy - I wear mine every single day and I''m still completely in love with them

Hmm. My setting. But it wasn''t in response to the job.

Oh we did buy a lovely garnet together right after. I still have to set that one.

I don''t know if this is my professional career, but it''s my second job doing the same sort of job, and I plan to stay here as long as they will keep me.

So I am in the process of buying my first big thing - my e-ring upgrade! I shall join the ranks of cushion lovers very shortly.

My wedding band.

That''s not the answer I expected to give, but I''m pretty sure that''s what it was. I bought two small pairs of diamond earrings whilst I was in college, got engaged shortly after college so it''d have to be the wedding band.

I''m waiting a while but I want to buy myself possibly diamond stud earrings because my boyfriend never buys them for me!

But, I''ll probably wait a year since I bought this necklace.....

Mine was a setting for my mother''s engagement stone! She gave it to me while I was in university and it was a yellow gold matchy set so I took the main stone and the smaller stones out and had them set into a right hand ring design with the smaller stones set in a pave style. It was not a HUGE purpose but it was around $700.00 which was 1/2 a year worth of books in my student brain at the time!

I got a small diamond pendant from (cough) Kay after I started my first job post-grad school. It''s a tiny stone (included and badly cut, but it does sparkle), and I really got it because I liked the style more than anything else - and it within my tiny budget.

Someday when I get tenure (knocks on wood) maybe I''ll do a pendant to replace the itty bitty one.

I''m still in grad school, but I purchased a garnet rhr for my first big purchase besides the engagement ring.

I bought a Benrus watch, it had a small diamond on the 12 spot, I just loved that watch, it was only gold tone, but it was really expensive at them time!

2/3 tcw ACA diamond studs :-). Got them 10 months into my "real job"
