I was talking to someone at work yesterday about fish oil, and I know there''s been talk of that here as well in other threads, so I got to wondering what vitamins/supplements do y''all take, and do you notice benefits from them?

Every day, I take a prenatal vitamin, ususally 2 EmergenCs, and 6 "Shi Quan Da Bu Tang" (3 pills 2x a day) herbal supplements, which my accupuncturist said should raise my energy level.

As for benefits, I DO feel noticeably less tired every day (there was a period where I honestly felt like I had mono -- I was constantly exhausted!) and I haven''t had a cold since September, so ... this stuff works?

For those of you that take fish oil pills, what does it do??

I take a multivitamin, calcium + vitamin D, chromium picolinate, magnesium, and cinnamon. Haven''t taken them long term enough to know if they make a difference, but my dad takes a ton of supplements and they really work for him - his eye specialist recommended flax seed oil and it has really helped his vision problems. The supplements have also done wonders for his blood sugar, cholesterol, and overall health, according to his doctor!

I am just finishing my last prescription of prenatal vitamins due to nursing. I will probably just take a multivitamin. I have heard so much bad about herbs and vitamins (vitamin E was the lastest thing I think ) that I am scared to take too much of anything but I know I need calcium. I am highest risk for osteoporosis. (spell?)

I am concerned about taking anything because the FDA doesn''t monitor what is in vitamins and herbal supplements so I would have to do a lot of research before taking anything.I think a lot of that stuff is snakeoil. They are always testing things on 20/20 or Dateline and they seem to often find that even vitamins are mislabeled in terms of how much is in each pill.

I take PrimaCare which is a perscription prenatal. I think it might actually have fish oils in it which I believe helps with brain development but I am not sure what the benifits to ME are.

I take GNC Women''s Ultra Mega. I like these the best of all of the multi-vits. I''m *supposed to* take an iron supplement because I tend to run on the anemic side, but, I don''t always as they upset my stomach. I also take calcium and occasionally flax seed oil.

I am taking PrimaCare ONE too when I was pregnant and now nursing. The extra iron is for you too (extra blood volume) and the Omega 3 is also good for your health. Omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA, have been linked to reducing total blood fats, reducing LDL (bad) cholesterol, and raising HDL (good) cholesterol. They keep the platelets, the saturated fatty acids, and cholesterol from sticking together and clogging arteries, contributing to heart attacks and stroke.

Oh I am glad! I feel silly that I don''t really know that much about them. It is what natural stool softener is nice too

Also I like that they have a glossy coating b/c I think they are easier to take and they don''t have that wierd taste my GNC prenatals had.

I take a women''s multivitamin, ester-c, and some echinacea (sp?) when I''m on the road.

As far as fish oil goes, my dad is a huge fan. He takes a spoonful of cod liver oil daily (yuk!), and swears by it. He''s a month away from turning 90, and is in pretty good shape. I cannot remember the last time he had a cold.

I take fish oil capsules. Based on incredibly stupid things I do on a daily basis, I don''t think they help!!!

I think the last time I may have had a cold was 2003? Thats just a guess since I know I havent had anything since 2004.
