Hello!
Some of you may recall I had purchased this Tiffany Elsa Peretti emerald pendant. At the time, I also purchased the matching earrings, although I really wanted the larger ones but it wasn’t in the budget at the time so I got the smaller ones.
Well, my husband surprised me with the large ones for my birthday (a big birthday) and the color is not the same; the pendant is a bluish-green (as are my small earrings) and the large earrings are a rich green.
I do not know what to do about this. Do I see if Tiffany can find me a better match?
Client Advisor feels that the earrings I received are a more valuable color (which honestly makes me feel like crap about the pendant and small earrings I previously purchased from them!) but, as a G.G. myself (not working in the industry, did it as a “lifelong learning” kind of experience) that thought had also occurred to me even before the Client Advisor’s input (although not necessarily true if the saturation is there, and there is also a thing about having too much saturation.) I’m guessing Tiffany Client Advisors may have a basic understanding of what constitutes a nice gem but could lack a more comprehensive knowledge base depending on their training and experience.
With that said, I had been drawn toward the bluish-green but I’m also starting to think more openly/favorably toward the rich green, just not sure if they are too dark.
*Do I see if they can find a pair that matches the pendant?
*Do I just not have the large earrings and the pendant function as a matched set?
*Do I sell the pendant and small earrings and use that money toward the purchase of a new pendant that matches the large earrings?
There is also a pair of the large earrings being sold on a website as pre-owned that I’ve been following (my husband didn’t know about this until yesterday when all this came up as I had no idea he was thinking of purchasing the larger earrings and, quite honestly, I thought the ship had sailed on ever even owning the larger ones due to their ever-increasing price-point and pretty much was sort of over it by now so it was a bit of a shock and a switching of gears when I received the gift box). It appears that the resale pair might be a closer match to my pendant.
Clearly if I purchased the ones for resale we would save a nice chunk of money. I am a little concerned about purchasing emeralds pre-owned, however there is a generous return policy but I haven’t bought from that vendor and am always a bit nervous for high ticket items.
There’s also the issue of returning the new pair to Tiffany as we’ve worked with this person before and I feel bad for that person to lose out on such a big sale.
It’s so ironic, and things like this happen to me all the time so I’m kicking myself, but as I said I periodically follow the listing for the resale pair and I took a peek the other day to see if they were still available and I almost mentioned it to my husband but didn’t. Ugh!
Add to my angst the fact that there is a specific return period for Tiffany that is clicking away as the purchase was charged more than one day prior to my husband picking up the earrings and then he had them in his possession for a couple days prior to presenting them to me on my birthday, so I’ve lost days to deal with this even before I received them.
What would you do/what do you suggest I do?
