There is a thread going and there is an ongoing converstation about marmite? What is it? Is it similar to butter? What does it taste like? Can it be bought in the US?

LOL, I''ve been wondering this for over a year myself!
Every time I see someone post ''marmite'' or ''vegemite'' I think of the Lucy episode with ''Vitameatavegamin''!
You can usually find it at World Market in the food section.Date: 8/11/2009 3:58:26 PM

Same! Always wanted to try it. If it''s salty, I''ll probably love it!Date: 8/11/2009 4:04:27 PM

It''s yeast extract. I''ve tasted vegemite (but did it the ''wrong'' way by sticking my finger in it). Imagine soy sauce highly concetrated into a paste. That''s kind of what it tastes like to me.

I think Marmite is ground up raw grubs, slugs and snails.
