I am wondering what size my wedding band should be.

It will be an eternity band of bezeled 2- to 3-point round stones in platinum. It will be approximately 2.3mm wide. My engagement ring (see avatar for a photo) is a size 2.5. The e-ring shank is 3.5mm wide at its widest point, and about 2.5mm wide at its narrowest.

I am planning to wear them together; however, I think I might like to have the option of wearing the band on my right hand if I get more stacking rings in the future or if the side stones in my shared-prong e-ring setting start to scratch or wear down the metal on the band. I think the latter scenario is unlikely to happen based on the band''s low profile and how I think they will fit together, but I feel like I should be prepared for the possibility. I might also want to wear it alone on my left hand or with just a plain band on occasion. (I love having options.)

Here''s the catch: my right ring finger is slightly bigger than my left. The RHRs I currently have are size 3, but I can comfortably wear a 2.75 on that finger. I like my rings to be on the snug side. Most jewelers recommended a size 2.75-3 for my e-ring, and I didn''t feel it was comfortable until it was down to the 2.5. I don''t know if this was due to the weight and height of my center stone, but it really bothers me when rings spin. It doesn''t bother me if they''re on the tight side in the summer.

A couple jewelers have told me they generally make the wedding band a little bigger than the e-ring, meaning a quarter- to half-size larger, citing comfort as the reason. Is this a common practice, or are the wedding band and engagement ring usually the same size? Is there any reason for the wedding band to be larger or smaller?

Another thought: is there any reason to get the ring in a larger size (3-3.5, for example) and install a sizing bar or beads to make it potentially sizeable later? My instinct would be not to do this, but I just wanted to throw the idea out there.

Please help a girl who has thought entirely too much about this issue: given all I''ve told you, what size do you think I should get?

My wedding ring is a half size bigger than my engagement ring. It''s an eternity band so I wanted a bit of leeway with my finger size for the future and I also don''t like rings too tight, so I went a bit bigger.

It sounds like 2.75 may be the winner in your situation.

I got both my engagement ring and wedding band a quarter size bigger than ''fits'' because I like my rings on the slightly loose side. I don''t want to plan for finger expansion, because who knows what will (or won''t) happen. Might as well get what feels right now.

ditto musey.

Both my rings are the same size. I didn''t plan for changes in the future. But having said that, I don''t think I would get an eternity band with no sizing bar again. Too risky. I want to be able to wear it forever!

In your case, I''d go with a size 2.75. You could do what I did and add a sizing circle to your eternity band.
